he is putting an rb in a skyline

what is there to understand?

I can't find the answer im looking for on search :(, are you saying that i need to find an r33 that had the factory rb20de? or would a na r32 tailshaft work also?

RB20E not RB20DE (in R33s that is). They are as rare as hen's teeth in Australia though. The only ones that ever came in came as mistakes. No-one in their right mind would ever want one. So finding the tailshaft out of one these days would be next to impossible.

mattymatty. Search using google. Don't search ANY forum ANYWHERE using the in-built search function. Tell google you want to search sau.com.au and it will search just that site, and search properly. Literally EVERY question you can come up with has probably been asked here before. Except perhaps about fitting an RB20 into a boat.

Here's the thing. When putting RB25 turbo box into R32 you have to get the front half of the front half (note the repetition is NOT a mistake) of the R33 tailshaft and graft it onto the shortened front half of the R32 tailshaft. If you want to do it the other way around, then you just have to do the opposite of what I just said. It would be money better spent on getting an RB25 instead of an RB20, but there you go.

And hardsteppa. Just f**k off mate.

The other problem with using the glass rb20 box is the extra weight of the car.

So its good you got the rb20 cheap. But putting the 20 box in is really the troublesome thing, in that it creates more work for a box that will just break.

(The rb20 will just be slow, so no harm done, but the box is weak and will likely break)

How long would you have to wait it get the cash to buy an r33 box? During that time you could drop the engine in and get it running(just the engine, so whatever rewiring is required) Then box simply bolts in and you can chirp second and make whooshing noises past bus stops all day.

i did try google but all that came up was 240sx forums. Thank you guys for your help, I think I will take the 33 gearbox advice. I got it thrown in with the engine anyway so I might just sell that and look for a 25 box while I set everything else up. I got the engine way to cheap and way to many parts to get the thing running to consider a 25 engine though so I will pursue through the hate and use that. Thanks all

I'd like to throw my two cents in.

RB20 box is shorter than RB25 hence the different tailshaft lenghts. But since you have a welder you can fabricate/modify the tailshaft using RB20 yoke.

Engine mounts, should use the R33 ones I suppose. In R31s you use the R31 mounts for RB20/RB25 conversions or the engine sits weird.

Best is to dummy mount the engine and gearbox and start measuring.

Also, since you can weld, make a Gibson-style exhaust manifold.

    • Out of curiosity, how do you cover up the inspection hole? Surely it doesn't sit open like that, right? With grime and dirt coming in and oil going out?
    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything
