3076R .63 Vs 3071 .82

hey guys sold my s15 and switched to a 33 pooline for a cheap bitumen sprints car/local drift car. Chasing 270-280 skrillas on 18 or so psi. Rb25 all supporting mods with an unopened engine. I've researched as much as I could but haven't found a good comparison on whether the lag would be less on the .82 71 but achieve the same power. Already have a 44mm t smart gate welded onto stock mani FYI.

Up here in nth qld its hot as shit to and we don't seem to have on par figures with some.of the rest granted. Just seeing what people think. I'm leaning towards the 3076 in .63. Tracks are small so response is needed. Cheers

Get a 71GTX mate, regardless of what housing you run. Near enough GT76 flow, near enough or the same as GT71 spool.

Am running a GTX71 on my SR and cannot fault it. It makes 295wasps on a DD running 98 ron and it is by far the best turbo all round that I have had, period.

My personal recommendation: get a GTX3071R core without housing and a Kando 10cm T3 Vband housing. Kick ass and take names.

I like the idea of Scottys external gates mounted on the turbine housing . IW will work with a 0.82 Garrett housing and either a GT3076R or GTX3071R . People say the GTX3071 is a tad less responsive than a GT3076R and a mid trim 76R should be slightly better responding than the usual larger comp trim version .

Any of these turbos should romp in 270-280 at the bags its just that some will give slightly better transients than others .

Take your pick , cheers A .

Interesting feedback re GTX3071 vs GT3076, who exactly said this?

I believe Mick_O was the fabled GTX response king around these parts, never had I heard anyone say his car was less responsive than an equivalent GT3076....

Furthermore, I can confirm that I've driven a bunch of 3076 powered SRs and none compare to the response I am getting from my GTX3071. None of those 76s were twin scroll but neither is mine. Apples and apples.

First hand experience > folklore, wouldn't you say?

The GTX3071 felt like the open GT3082 for transient response on 98ron IMO (ie bum dyno). The GT3076 felt better everywhere to me but it was TS so this may or may not have a noticeable effect. Mick's GTX was totally awesome on E85 and better than the GT3076 on 98ron.

    • Once you go non OEM DBW e-throttle, you'll never go back to a cable throttle. Just so good in every single way.
    • Feels like most tend to keep it under 8000rpm for hydraulic lifters. Quick search on the net and those on Rennlist like to keep theirs under 7500rpm, Speed Talk under 8000rpm. Perhaps start to take timing out for 7250rpm and soft cut it by 8000rpm.
    • Ok, so I just had a chat with my mechanic. He said there is no real source of lead in the engine, the bearings and pistons are aluminium and the rings I think he said are steel. He doesn't recall what additive he used but that along with the thicker 20w50 he used could be a source of lead. It's put me at ease a little bit and I guess I'll just have to wait 5000 k's to do another change and see if anything is different.  I appreciate you guys chiming in. I have a habit of immediately thinking worst case with things like this.
    • Finished street tuning it to 20psi with WMI. Haltech really makes it easy for you with those 4D maps. I have 17psi springs in my gates but they seem to only start cracking around 17 and taper off around 19/20psi. I was originally on 14psi springs but I'm expecting to need ~35-38psi to hit my goal and I was worried It wouldn't make it. Dyno's booked for next Friday. All I have left is to replace my el cheapo amazon special type k connectors on my EGT's. They have no strain relief and well are just all around cheap compared to what I use at work. I had the wires in one get lose and I don't want a repeat of that on the Dyno. I also want to figure out why I have 4 cylinders that are perfectly identical, one that's 30C over and another that's 30C under. I'm chocking this up to EGT position in the runners not being identical and will verify that as well. Wish me luck! Hopefully I make all the power with no bang. Question for the group, I have my rev limiter set to 8000rpm. I have a fully built head and new lifters but I stuck with hydro's. Is 8000 fair or am I being to cautious?
    • Anyone used A to Z Imports in Goldcoast?  I was referred to them for engineering and RWC? However besides a few one off bad google reviews it all seems pretty legit?   https://www.atozimports.com.au/
