Bloody Sky trying to cover up the role Lewis played..doesnt change the fact the team should have set him straight...but Lewis seems to be thevguy that started the call for tyres

"...when that Safety Car situation unfolded, did you not at all question whether to come in or not? Bearing in mind, regardless of the situation with the tyres, track position is ultimately king in Monaco.

"I cant really express the way I feel at the moment, so I wont even attempt to, he said. You rely on the team. I saw a screen, it looked like the team was out and I thought that Nico had pitted. Obviously I couldnt see the guys behind so I thought the guys behind were pitting. The team said to stay out, I said these tyres are going to drop in temperature, and what I was assuming was that these guys would be on Options and I was on the harder tyre. So, they said to pit. Without thinking I came in with full confidence that the others had done the same.

Yep, Homo's panic caused the pit stop. Team told him to stay out, but he questioned them. Mistake 1.

He had it in his head that Nico and Vettel had stopped and he would be on worn out tyres... he didn't ask the team if they'd stopped, he assumed that himself from looking at TV screens. Mistake 2.

In the heat of the moment the team were under pressure now to make a call. They changed their minds and brought him in because he was worried about his tyres lasting. Mistake 3.

2 of the 3 mistakes were Hamiltons, and they were the mistakes that pressured the team into making the snap decision to bring him in.

Hamilton thought he was too smart, watching the TVs to find out what's going on, but in the end it was the dumbest way to loose a GP ever.

That would explain how calm he was in answering the questions about the team screwing him.

How did he think they had pitted when they were behind him though? They weren't THAT far behind him that he was about to lap them, and even still, track position at Monaco is king..

Rubbish it did. Asking about a new set of tyres is a reasonable question. At the end of the day it is the team on the pit walls call irrespective of how much of a sookie la la the driver is being. They got it wrong and bear the responsibility for the mistake. The screw up was in not knowing the gap to second when he got to the pit entrance and reacting to that rather than other concerns.

The point missed is RBR gave Dan a free pitstop. The whole need vs time required...all seemed a bit rushed. What I do believe is that Merc messed up trying to be cute....and Lewis played a part and is the reason why he wasnt going postal post race. He played a part in it by requesting it assuming events that ... lol well I am happy because now we get to see if after a couple of hiccups whether he goes his usual walk about with his head down kicking at cans or chin up and comes back strong.

With what he is getting paid he needs to be Vettel/Alonso bankable at the next few races.. not go walkabout crying victim

LOL, even though he had pole I did laugh that all Saturday he was still sooking about last years yellows dropping reference into it in every post race interview :(

By contrast...I have so much more time for Alonso the past few years. This year he isnt throwing his toys out the pram and looking at Vettel he must be kicking himself for looking elsewhere...yet head down and works harder with a smile

Wow I can't beleive you guys get so worked up about F1,,,it's so bloody processional.

I've been trying my hardess to watch it these days but my god it is so bloody boring.

I just finished watching the Indy 500 for a second time and it's by far a much better spectacle,,,cars actually overtake on the track and in the pits.

Cheers

Neil.

But how long do you reckon he can keep it up for before he goes postal? After the next engine blow up/overheat/energy recovery system failure/energy storage failure/Q3 outage in Canadia?

meh, maybe you'll believe Hamilton himself?

"I saw a screen, it looked like the team was out and I thought that Nico had pitted," said Hamilton. "Obviously I couldn't see the guys behind so I thought the guys behind were pitting."

"The team said to stay out, I said 'these tyres are going to drop in temperature,' and what I was assuming was that these guys would be on [super-soft] and I was on the harder tyre."

"So they said to pit. Without thinking I came in with full confidence that the others had done the same."

It was obviously a stuff up on Mercedes part too, but their first call was correct - stay out. They only changed it because Hamilton thought he knew better...

The driver can ask for whatever he wants but the team on the pit wall makes the call because they have more data. Hell they can see no one out in Ferraris pit. But they thought (wrongly) they had enough time anyway.

“The simple answer is we got the maths wrong,” said Toto Wolff. “We thought we had a gap which we didn’t have when the safety car came out, and Lewis was behind the safety car and the calculation was simply wrong.

Something about not having GPS at Monaco.

yes, but Hamilton never asked them if the other guys had pitted... He had already made his mind up about that coz he's so clever looking at the big screens... He had it in his head the others had stopped and that's why he wanted to stop as well. That's where this mistake stems from.

Mercedes original call: "stay out" was 100% correct. Hamilton second guessed them based on an incorrect assumption forcing the rushed maths about the pit stop which ballsed it all up.

Root cause: a) incorrect assumption from Hamilton, b) Hamilton not asking if the others had pitted, and finally c) incorrect last minute change of mind RE the pit call.

Does Alonso normally carry on? I haven't noticed it. Certainly isn't as bad as Vettool or Homo. One thing I have said about Alonso after seeing him at Ferrari (where he could rightfully complain about an awful car) is that no matter what car he is given he drives the absolute shit out of it. There have been plenty of examples over the last few years when he has achieved a better result than the car's natural pace would suggest.

Yes.. these days it's a car management event not a racing event. The drivers are doing 85% of their maximum performance because they are always managing with fuel, tyres or brakes. They're also several seconds a lap slower - someone worked out that if you compare to a 2004 car in Malaysia that the 2004 car would have lapped the 2015 car six times. No wonder it's boring!

Everyone posting in this thread should fill out the GPDA survey if not done already. Let them know what's wrong with the sport:

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
