How would it work without any noise or something, I did not notice and the blokes at the shop did not notice??

Two halves of a roller bearing will still work. Maybe not nicely or strongly, but will work. The broken thrust washers could lead to noise, but depends on what and where they are from.

But as I was getting my car put back together at the time and all sorts of shit seems to happen in these workshops, I did not need something else, or excuse to hold the work up

They said it was working OK and if anything would have been stronger as the plates had tightened up or something like that. It was end of year golf party yesterday and had a shatload of red, so my recollection may be a bit blurred

The good thing is that the parts that were stuffed are not that expensive and the plates were being changed anyway when they were doing the modifications
