WA has 38 thefts/10,000 registrations - 25% more than the next worst State in NSW.

Things are so out of hand that "Black Knight" trackers are being offered to owners of 'High Risk' cars' owners for linking to their phones.

Thoughts?

The suburb makes a big difference IMO.

BTW, my R33 has being parked on the street in front of the house for over a year now & no one even pays any attention...

On the other hand I wouldn't be leaving even a rust bucket Corolla (unless I want it stolen & get the insurance payout) in some of the feral infested suburbs we have here...

This is why I do not want my R knocked OFF!

Early this year I bought a worked 1999 R34GTR in good condition for $40k that already had $50k spent on it ,I had to run in the last 800Klms before the final tune, but it was not what I wanted and have now spent about $50k on mods and agreed Value with Justcars $45k.( the car was being built for track/drag work, VERY laggy DD )

Before anyone tells me I am a DH, I KNOW! but I had no idea what the car was worth, I figured with $50k just on it ( had the work invoices) and I paid $45k I got the car for less than nothing, silly me :( BUT it will be the way I want it :)

Going to take Terry's ? advice when my insurance is due in January and try NRMA Vintage Car Insurance as it will be 16 years old and I will do less than 9000Klms PA and see what they have to say?

MY QUESTION , do the immobilizer in the R34GTRs meet the Australian Standards. Justcars insist they do, or NO payout if it goes missing??

On the box of alarm-immobilisers there should be a code stating, "AS/NZ STANDARDS CERTIFIED". The stock immobiliser is not up to AS/NZ standards.

And yes MK, certain suburbs/postcodes are regarded as high risk. You can live across the road in fact as in a different suburb/postcode and be deemed as lower risk. I find it sadly quaint that in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne many of the high risk suburbs are referred to as the western suburbs.

I spoke to a bloke there this morning, you cannot use it as a DD or track and be eligible for vintage insurance

You should have a main DD, a garage , good driving track record, not drive over 9000Klms a year but 9000Klms of driving is a fair amount for the second car , 173 Klms a week , 24 a day.

I will be getting all of the info next week and be able to read the fine print, thats the test, haha

Thats interesting Peter, let us know how you go with nrma, but at this stage I'm only looking to get 3rd party, I also have a dash cam so if I'm not at fault, I have proper proof on a camera (no hassles in small claims court) or if I'm at fault, then 3rd party covers the other person, and I'm stuck with damage to my car.

My 180sx was rear ended, written off, I was offer 9k from aami, had a private accessor check out my car, aami then offered 21k the accessor took 4k.

I got all my money back, every cent. paid 8k for the car, and had receipts for work done and parts purchased.

Hi Daniel

Those dash cams seem to be worth the $$$$s paid, well if you are in the right :)

Well I was surprised at the low price NRMA gave me but I will wait until I get the policy to confirm I got it right,

I would suggest anyone that does not track there car and it is the weekender in a garage, I would give them a call and as long as you meet their criteria it is a great deal..

I also got another $20k of insurance ,$65k instead of $45k, a bit closer to what the car is worth, well to me but not enough to cover price and mods, haha

^ Yeah i pay comprehensive and i think it's a waste of money. I bought my car for 6.5k and they want almost 2k for a year. All i want insurance for is theft.

Wow, how much did you want to insure it for ?

I had $45k on mine with Justcars and that was $1900 and I thought that was high. I think you can insure a new GT-R for less than that.

Where you live, do you have it in a garage, driving record and how old you are also plays a big part in the cost

I live in campbelltown so even though it's a good part of campbelltown i guess that's the main reason why it's so high and i'm 19 years old. Any insurer is going to f**k you if you drive a skyline in my area at my age. Insured for what i bought it for. I only have a driveway and driving record is perfect.

There is only one good thing about being an old fart, cheaper insurance, the rest is shit :)

HAHA, be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

I have 4 kids , 51,34,17and 13 years old, so as you can see I have still kept living , I am now a single Dad with the 2 youngest and they keep me young :)

When you get older you reflexes start going downhill , you mind wants to still do all of the things you did before but your body says , PISS OFF !

Just had to stop golf again, back, shoulders and knees farked from being young ,LOL ,

it is not all that good being retired unless you are young and a shat load of money, apart from that, I liked working :)

Sleep when you want, haha I have been retired for 8 years , I still wake up between 4 and 5am, OH, thats not counting the piss stops through the night, haha

I had a good run and it was great, still love cars, like to LOOK at a beautiful Sheila ,, good food and wine so it is not all bad , well except for the just looking bit, that is all you will do because you look like shat to them and you become one of the invisible people , an old person!

So mate my suggestion to you is, do the right thing in life, learn to like work and it will all work out, be a smart arse DH and you will get shit back in bucket fulls :)

THE END :)

^Fully agreed, and I'm "only" 41. Getting harder to focus on things close to me these days, aches and pains don't go away quite as quickly, the gut is much easier to grow than shrink...I fear the slide has started. Doesn't help I've stopped riding to work every day of course.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
