Just wondering if someone can give me an idea of how an r33 gtst with 220rwkw compares to a GTR (GTR which is stock to lightly modified with exhaust, FMIC and a bit more boost).

Which would feel faster? Ignoring the fact that a gtst with that sort of power struggles to get all the power down off the line (which I tend to enjoy :) )

thanks

well 220rwkw should get a mid-12 sec time with a good driver and correct rear end setup.

A mildly modified GTR will probably also run that time :)

.. roughly equivelent - but like you say the traction of the GTS-T is the weak point.

I have a lightly modified GTR as you say, exaust, bit more boost etc..

couple of mats have ~220rwkw 33gtsts...

MSPEC (he's on here), if i launch, he has no chance, i get a good 3 or so car lengths on him, and its all over... when he launches and i dont, he beats me over the 1/4 by about a car length or 2.... rolling in 2nd gear as you say, i generally pull away slowly, i think because i have longer gears, 8000rpm shift as opposed to his 7000rpm...

well i have had a fair bit of experience with Both my 225rwkw GTS and a GTR with similar power and the GTR will always feel faster, it has a more usable power range, it has punch from really down low all the way up top, where my GTS doesnt really punch till about 3,500 - 4000rpm.

launching a GTR is just awesome, the g-force feel is unbeleivable and really freaks out passangers that arent ready for it :) but the slide action of a GTS is also really fun.

I have also played with a GTR running over 300rwkw and that is better than sex... and have been a passanger in a GTR running 450rwkw and thats just stupid!

yeah.. you definitely feel the punch of the GTR from the get go.. just because of the massive torque and two turbos make the power all that much more smoother. You can get a good punch from a well modified gts-t but its not quite the same.

There is no real comparison :)

The Gtst still feels quick... i think you always get the scare factor more when a passenger, so thier Gtst's always feel as quick as my car.. but being a passenger in my GTR, it just feels more safe/secure/solid, dont know how to describe it..

i have 258rwkw

Getting the power down is a negative...and a positive. It's a bit slippery. when you wheelspin all the way up a mountain stretch in the dande's it's lairy and fun.

To be honest it's a while since I have driven a GTR but the amount of traction means you are going so much faster when you need to brake, so have to brake a lot earlier, and all that extra weight means that on the same tyres it would be pretty damn close on a track.

Ultimately the GTR is a better starting point, but it depends would be the only true answer.

I personally like my RWD style so stick with it for now. I have been thinking of getting rid of 2 cars to get a GTR though. 4 cars is too many sometimes.

yeah its bad, i regret all the GTR driving i have done, because nothing has come close to comparison.

they should have a mandatory sign on the steering wheel, stating exactly that once you drive this car everything else seems like crap!

it can cause serious depression amongst people lacking the money to own one... i am one of the unfortunate.

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
