So I have the good old rb20det in my 32

And plans are I would like to stay 20 for the Revs and whenever I need to rebuild it then do so.

Well! I gave it a good rev today and she blew more smoke then Willy Nelson. Even small now all of a sudden even smaller revs it blows smoke (whitish Blueish) generally looks like oil pretty sure it smells like it to

Is it an internal seal or could the turbs be dead? I was going to buy an op6 and swap out incase it was the turbo blowing smoke.

But seems like a waste depending on the next question

I'm more of a rb20 fan because of its high revving I've owned 33s and I do like the torque of the 25 but that rb20 scream I love.

What would be my easiest option rebuild or replace my 20 or go the 25.

I'm pretty mechanically minded but i don't want to do extensive changes. The conversion seems pretty straight forward but no one gives you a straight answer

Some say 25 loom others say 20 loom.

Enlighten me? Thanks in advance

Do a compression test first.

Obviously the easiest route is to replace the RB20DET

25Neo is going to be more powerful and expensive and more work. If you Google you will probably find lots of people who have done it before to give you tips.

LOL, so a turbo goes and people are suggesting an engine swap? Fault find to confirm the problem and if its a dead turbo...here is a radical idea....put a new, better turbo on it.

I reckon you should put a Barra 6cyl 4L turbo in it or a 6.2L Chev. Why waste your time with an RB25?

It drives good but when it gets hot it plays up but its a sensor issue I'm sure. So I have a 02 coming aswell as a z32 and ect

There's not really any oil anywhere I can see

And may I add that i didn't believe it was rings or valve stems purely because you usually smell the burning oil

I never smell oil

Only fuel

And it's not really blue ish it's mainly whitish. Coolant was flushed a few weeks back and it hasn't lost a drop

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
