I know you didn't say stock... but let's face it, evo's could break sound barriers at 100 feet above the ground with a racing team, the only thing that most punters will care about is how fast an Evo is at a price point they can afford. :D

A friend of mine is a V8 man, and that's fine, but he constantly goes 'Nah nah, ABC V8 is faster than your Skyline.', to which you have to reply to him with "Yes, but your v8 barely beats Excels, so someone else's car is completely irrelevant." :D

Hehehe, yeah to be honest cars for this price will not be getting any faster due to cost, development and all. I'm sure you read the other thread where rS73 (I think) and I were discussing about the future of Nissan cars. I also just mentioned today in another forum that, don't expect the next Silvia V16 to be a turbo...it will most likely be a NA with a high revving VE head.

Have they made any noises about an S16? From all reports the Silvia has been retired forever? but yeah, you're right, they're definitely jumping feet first into the high-revving, high-tech NA field... which I kinda like (Exhibit A: S2000), but I guess there's the history that we'd like to keep going...

Sciby, no real solid evidence but I'm sure they will be back...you just have to wonder what Honda have up their sleeves when everyone else can build high revving engines these days.

Not diverting from the thread topic...like all cars, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, drive one before you judge one. I doubt any or many of you have driven an Evo. They do have a harsh ride as they are perhaps the only car off the showroom floor built ready to hit the circuit...so don't confuse this with how they ride and handle. Factory suspension is stiff unlike many Japanese sports cars, best go with aftermarket damper adjustable for street use...else you won't feel anything in your butt after 5-10mins in an Evo..I'm not kidding. Or you will have the mrs constantly nagging, again I know.

Serious-7, actually like you all don't want too many GT-Rs around, I don't want too many Evos flooding the market :D.

Yes I own and drive an Evo but doesn't mean they are the only cars I like. There are alot of nice cars, next car I hope to buy is a JZX100 Chaser V TRD Version, another rare car in that they are the last shape of it's kind as Toyota has discontinued their production. Or a Tom's 280T :D.

 RICH BOY!

And don't hate the Evo because it chops GT-Rs around the circuit. That is a fact, no one doubts that.  Could it be because the Evos run wider F/R track than the puny GT-Rs :D...who just run wide fenders to make it look wide :D. Most famous time attack battle, Tsukaba...how many GT-Rs in the top 5 or 10 compared to how many Evos, not to mention the 2 GT-Rs there are Saurus BNR32 and the M Speed BNR34, the whale is an unloved child ;).

Huh?

Last video I watched the GTR chopped the Evo (albeit R34GTR vs. Evo VIII) around Tsukuba over 5 laps. The video was the Best Motoring JDM vs. Supercars one with the Corvette Z51, Ferrari 360 Modena, NSX, Porsche 996tt and R34 GTR.

The R34 could turn and brake with the Evo and had more top end on the straights. Wasn't as pretty as the Evo around the curves but it got the job done.

Evo_Lee as your username says EVO.. you deticate your pride and joy to EVO's i can see ?

Most people will say OMG lanevo is now available to import for road use.. i am sure there will be lots of evo's floating around.

Lanevo?

Watch cartoons much?

Do you all believe what you watch...mhhh?

Read never said the Evo couldn't lose as well :D.

hehe yeah i know, the cars are both good and the Evo is fast (faster even in some ways sometimes). They both have their merit Im just stiring.

Would love to drive one and did drool over the Evo9 while visiting a random showroom in Chiba a couple months back. Maybe next time im in Japan i can drive yours :D;):)

What's interesting is if you look at the Tsukuba time attack, the cars in the top 10 are the Evo, GT-R, Silvia and FD3S...then have a look at the drag scene and again all these cars have done well. The Evo and Silvia perhaps not making much of a presence as they are primarily used for rally and drift respectively, but no doubt can run the numbers. A plug for the Evo is coming with a 9sec gearbox in a factory car.

So could I conclude in saying that these 4 cars are the best all rounder for drag and circuit applications.

Sewid: E9 aren't out, you mean E8.5...yes they are nice and like the TME will be another collector Evo. If your down next time, I guess why not :D.

Don't believe all those best motoring videos.

Fact of the matter is that they stack the drivers and grid order.

It's clear that given enough money, both the EVO and STI could take any GT-R on almost any track simply because HP isn't too much of a problem from modern 2.0 litre fours and the 4wd system and lighter body is an advantage over the heavier GT-R.

The GT-R was never designed to run against the EVO/STi - park an EVO next to an R34 and it's clear to anyone.

The EVO and STi are rally specials. When was the last time the GT-R hit the dirt?

T.

yes, it came 2nd then got disqualified. And targa is all tarmac no dirt

and the "racing" is the best motoring videos is a *disgrace* that is nothing like racing. more like WWF.

Evos are a great little track car, they beat us at Dutton too, best Evo came 1st, best Skyline 32nd. I'll still stick with the GTR, but lets not be one-eyed like the holden boys

    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
