Big difference from Sydney Lach! I recall many a minus 2 degree morning out in the west (Richmond/Penrith areas). It would warm up to about the same as (possibly more than) Adelaide though.

At least in Adelaide we don't get the freezing subzero mornings. I don't miss them one bit.

I may be up for a run, but am uncomfortable with how hot my oil got last time - plus the fact that Danh (9krpm) basically did his engine, and Johnny (JSpec) did his turbo.

I need an oil cooler, or more importantly the cash to buy and fit one :P .... I have quite a few little projects underway on my car atm, but not an oil cooler.

Also the tyre factor is concerning - I toasted an almost brand new $1,100 set of Dunop LM702s the last time - on one of the early runs they actually went molten and the rubber went off. They were completely shagged after that :P .... Now I have got a much more expensive set of Toyo Proxes T1-S that I don't want to kill.

I'll think about it.

yeah...if you are pushing hard road tyres can be *really* bad economy. You should consider buying r type tyres if you are roasting road tyres, they will last 5-10 track days and give heaps better grip as well :)

Don't be weak Andy!!! You know that this is probably the only sport Matt and I can beat you and you are backing off!!!!

hehehehe J/K

I thought I had spun bearings from the engine noise but it turned out to be scored cylinder wall (i think it was no 2). I don't think Mallala was entirely reponsible. The s2k is equipped with a small factory oil cooler. My oil temp is comparable to other NA s2k on track.

My engine failed a week after Mallala but on the day it was pushed very hard and fast up hill......a lot worst than mallala :). My mechanic and tuner blamed the failure on faulty spark plug. I did further research and found that it's more than likely that the spark plug backed out of the head and result in failure. It sounds like a load of crap but it's a common problem in the s2k :(

Anyway lets not talk about bad karma.

You know that the temperature on the track last time was prob around 35-40C. The temp in sept will be better for boost :D and now that you have some semi-slick Matt and I don't want any excuse ok :)

Be nice to see that silver beast there next time mate

hey if you guys are keen for a group buy of bridgestone re55, I can organise some good price for ya.  Just let me know :)

YES!!!!! I will CERTAINLY be in that - not right away, but soon. Say in a about 4 weeks time.

Maxx, I think the the Toyo should be fine on track.

but they are more expensive than the re55s in 16" and not grip as well as them.

  • 1 month later...
Well my visit has been cut short, so will only be in town between Sat 2nd Pctober and Sun 10th October.

Anyone doing the Saturday 9th Drift Competition G1 #2 ?  If tis worthwhiel i'll drive over rather then fly!

I will be heading up for a look most probably, where abouts are you staying?

errr Fri 12th Oct - do you have a time machine Troy? :D

You have to check the availability of Mallala - I think they only have 1 or 2 public practise days a month. You can't just go out there anytime (obviously). But I won't be in either way - I'm not doing Mallala again until I get an oil cooler.

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
