Buying a r33 gtst

Hi all,

So recently I drove my mates r33 (first rear wheel car I've ever driven) and that was enough to make me buy one.

I've got about a 25k budget and I want to space out the mods for the car so I don't kill myself.

Just want answer pls

  • What mods should I start with
  • What is the most psi I can run
  • any suggested mechanics (North Perth)

And anymore things for a newbie to know.

Thanks

Read the R3B25 and RB30 turbo upgrade threads to see what people do and with what results and work out where you want to get to. Nothing more money wasting than doing things twice. With your budget i would take the time to look for a nicely modified car and save some time and money.

My opinion this is what i did with mine first and its what i recommend.

1. Complete service - new oils (engine, gearbox, diff) new filters (oil, air, fuel) new plugs, check belts. this way you know exactly what you have in your car and that it all has been done.

2. Brakes - upgrade to new pads and rotors, don't skimp here get yourself something decent

3. Tyres - check to see what is on the car currently, if it is a cheap unknown brand, get something that is known and quality.

4. Suspension - Coil overs or decent strut/shocks and springs, check all your bushes, upgrade sway bars.

now you have a good solid platform that will handle when needed and will stop, you can start looking at power.

5. Elec boost controller and new BOV, the stock turbo will handle up to 12psi, with a GFB boost controller you can adjust alot of perimeters like spool up rate, max boost, overboost cut etc. reason for new BOV is over time factory ones can bleed boost. Don't buy ebay stuff, do it once do it properly.

6. 3" turbo back mandrel bent exhaust.

now you have enough power to have fun with for a while till you get comfortable with the car. From here the mods are relative to the depths of your pockets

New turbo, coil packs, fuel system upfrade, ECU, Tune, E85 etc etc

From the questions you've asked I can already tell that you are pretty excited about making the purchase.

Basically have a good think about @Coullsy's post. Rather than focus on "the most psi" focus on the handling side of things such as brakes, tyres and suspension first.

There's really no point having huge power with no back up to stop you when it's needed most.

its been mentioned before but i agree spend the money of making the car handle and stop before you look at power (dont cheap out on tires and wheels).  first power mods i made to my r33 were bigger injectors i put an r34 turbo in with 3in turbo back exhaust front mount z32air flow meter and new computer with nistune, with the r34 turbo im running 17psi.

im now looking at either building a forged rb26dett or doing an ls1 conversion because im used to the power now.

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
