Airbox for big single turbo (R33)

Hi Guys.

I am going a big single turbo on my R33 GTR but I want to keep induction noise down.

Does anybody know of any aftermarket airboxes for the R33 (bar the ARC one) that can be made to work with a big single,
perhaps even if somebody has made something from carbon.

The closest thing I can find that can probably be adapted to work is a R33 GTS-T ARC One, but I don't know how well they flow and never seen anybody
running a big single turbo with it.

I was thinking of getting my fabricator to make one from scratch that has a big 3 or 4" hole near the headlight area but don't know fo any Panel filter that will flow for about 500rwhp setup I was thinking getting one fabricated to suit FG XR6T panel filter but apparently their stock intakes are only good for around 400hp
Was also considering getting something fabricated to use R33 GTR size panel filter, but again unsure how it can flow around 500hp

Failing to find a panel filter capable of the job I was also thinking a big pod hidden inside a custom made airbox

I appreciate any suggestions perhaps if something low production exists out there.  I'm not to keen on the CAI sheet metal enclosures.

Cheers.

Just get 2x panel filters that are about 75% of the ones you are considering and sit them side by side in the custom made jobbie.  Instant 150% capacity of the XR6 or R33GTR panels.....no stress.

Having said that....it's hardly the pleated paper element that is the restriction to flow in factory filters boxes.  It's the openings into and out of the box, plus the convoluted crappy pipework and narrow cold air inlets etc etc.  Just making shit bigger is an instant win.

Interesting thanks for the ideas guys.   Yes I would put like a big 3" round or 4" round inlet on my custom made airbox just always wondered what the upper limits of the R33 GTR Air filter element were or XR6T one i guess it might be the go guys.

iruvyouskyrine How was the intake noise like with your ARC Box?

Yes contemplating whether to custom made something or just modify a RB25DET ARC Box.

It was decently loud, nothing crazy. Good in cabin noise but that was in a car with nothing behind the dash pad so would be less muffled. From memory it didn't make any more power running a pod compared to the ARC airbox

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
