Was it a bad decision buying a 03~07 NISSAN SKYLINE 3.5L coupe  from a used dealer .?? Been doing allot of repairs lately o2 sensor camshaft sensor sparks break pads new disc oil filter air filter and can a cracked air filter housing cause engine light to appear should he have fixed these issues before selling it .?? It’s running much better since these things have been done but still concerned even my fuel consumption is bad how do I fix this issue.??

Did you pay to have a full mechanical inspection on the car prior to purchase? If not, then yes, you made a big mistake. Second hand cards are buyer beware - what you bought is what you bought. If you didn't bother/pay to find out the cars full history prior to purchasing, then sorry to say, but fool you.

Getting a full service done by a qualified mechanic may help your fuel economy issues, but generally your right foot is the thing responsible for bad fuel economy. These are not terribly economical cars at the best of times though - the power they make for the size of unboosted engine is quite amazing imho, and the penalty for this is bad fuel economy.

I checked the history I paid for it and it said everything was fine no issues there but I’m pretty sure it needs a tune up trying to find someone in Melbourne who knows these cars
it only has 130,000 kilometres on it and it’s make is 2003 does that seem right has it been wound back .?

I could be wrong but i'd believe so. 99% sure thats wound back. Unless you have the original import papers that tell you the kms at auction then its hard to know. You can pay for the ODO check though. its about $90usd for the full one and they supply import papers.

Also reset your ECU (disconnect battery for 30 mins) then plug it back in and drive like a grandma for like 20-30km. Worked wonders for my v36 economy.

While it's good you did at least that, it is not the same thing as a full mechanical inspection, which is what Nightcrawler was referring to. History checks won't tell you anything about how well the previous owner looked after it, when it was serviced nor who serviced it. If someone were to purchase my vehicle, they'd find no service history documented at all for the simple fact I'm a DIY kind of guy. The car could have been in zero accidents and yet still be riddled with mechanical faults.

Not much in the way of tuning you can do. Pull out a plug and if it looks old or the gap has grown to 1.2mm or more get a new set of plugs.

it all sounds like normal maintenance items, which probably were not done by previous owners. plus the usual model specific issues. cant expect an old car with that much mileage to be perfect

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣
    • You’ll be very upset when you bust that too not to mention the gearing totally sucks. Don’t do it.
    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
