I never wrote it down, but it was a Garrett tag, not sure of the number though.........When I put my new manifold on, I will take it down and post it up

MM2Death, do you have your ID number? as my turbo looks identical to that

Chris

hey chris,

fyi, as hks basically use garrett turbo parts, the id plates also say Garrett - Allied Signal.

looks will not tell u if they are the same turbo.

specs and measurements will tell u what ur turbo is.

yeah, I understand that

When the turbo comes off to put the new exhaust manifold on, I will take a few pics and measurements and write down what is on the tag :P

seems like 2530 type performance though

Well, found some pics, RS500, what would you identify this turbo as?

MM2Death, does this look like yours? I am 99% sure this is what I have

Chris

The 2530 I saw looked the same apart from the tag.

The 2530 had a HKS tag. It said it was a 2540 but after an inspection from a turbo person he said it had the 2530 exhaust housing so it was essentially a 2530.

Well lifes full of disappointments.

Because we only had 45 minutes to tune my Pfc, i still dont know what sort of mumbo it has. At 8psi it made 186rwkws, so we settled on 205rwkws (at something like 11psi?) and mega conservative tune to make sure the car made it thru the thrashing it copped 12hours later at the track...

So maybe this time next week ill have a dyno printout of the car tuned...i have to say i think im going to be happy with the final result

Chris

My tag looks like that one (Garrett)

Numbers as best as i could make out...

So yeah tell me what you think...

Cheers,

Scott

Joel,

fyi, both the HKS GT2530 & 2540 actually have the same exhaust wheel and inturn, they run the same A/R .64 exhaust housing.

Although, on thing to note is that the 2540 was only available with a T3 flange (to suit RB20 & RB25) where the 2530 was available with both GT25 & T3 flanges.

tell that to ur turbo person and tell him that he talks :bs!:

Chris,

unfortunately, i can't recognise those numbers nor can i find any reference to those as a garrett item.

sorry i can't be of any help.

Yer I thought the 2540 and 2530 had the same exhaust a/r but he was sure the 2540 had a larger exhaust a/r.

This was Bill Keen from ATS on Marion road.

don't care who he is, he doesn't know his HKS turbos.

the 2540 actually has a 'larger' T04S compressor wheel (46T - 51.7/76.2mm) as compared to the smaller T3 comp wheel (63T - 47.7/60.1mm) on the GT2530.

refer to the US HKS website which i provided for you or go to the official HKS japan website and show that to Bill Keen.

The mystery continues..................

JMS mentioned that it may be some type of Nismo turbo, but then settled for either a 2510 or 2530. Dosen't bother me, it makes plenty of power anyway for a bolt on RB20 turbo :) Can't wait to see what it makes with more boost

Chris, it looks like you and I have very similar turbos.  Those pics you attached were your turbo on your car right?

Cheers,

Scott

The pictures I have aren't digital, but are EXACTLY the same as the pics I have posted, I grabbed them of the net.

Looks like we have the same mystery turbo................seems to do a good job too :) We both make near identical power too, which would make me think they are the same

hey does anyone know if a GTR turbo is a straight bolt on? I'm going for cheap upgrades, and don't really want big hp - modding for response.

Is the GTR turbo a good option or just a waste of money? (ie. will it be too laggy?)

no flange is T25 not T3

anyhow, a single GTR turbo is similar to what they run on S13's etc, so no better than a stock 32 turbo

If you are after responce, why not try a R33 GTS25T turbo, they can be had pretty cheap, and would give good response and enough top end to make around 175-185rwkw, which is good power

Yep and just use the RB20 wastegate actuator for its higher boost setting. :D

    • You Gregged a whole racetrack!?
    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
