Hello everyone,

I am from Malta and have recently bought myself a fully stock 1992 Nissan Skyline GTS. It has the RB20DE engine and thus is NA.
Unfortunately, not a lot of information can be found online related to the GTS, unlike the information for GTS-T and GTR variants.

Apart of the Skyline, I also got a 1984 Porsche 924 2.0l NA and a 2002 Renault Clio 1.5DCi for everyday use.

Excited to be apart of the community and perhaps get better information on cars such as the GTS.

This is not really true. We have a whole forum here just for the NA shitboxen. And they are not very different from the turbo shitboxen. Just weaker brakes and gearboxes, and no LSD, for the most part.

And half of them have been converted to turbos.

Welcome Gabriel.

At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later.

Two doors or four?

It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo.

Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS

According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant.

Will try to upload a few pictures soon.

The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.spacer.png

These look like S13 wheels.

And Welcome!

Exactly, when searching online they were a lot more common on S13s, but have seen quite a few of Skyline GTSs with them as well.

Yeah everyone always seems to refer to them as S13 wheels however they came on R32 Skyline, A31 Cefiro, C33 Laurel etc., and also came polished diamond cut or painted depending on the model.

Congrats on your GTS purchase! I'd personally leave it NA. :)

Wow! It looks like those photos were taken in 1989. I don't think I've ever seen an R32 so high off the ground before. Straight out of the brochure!

There's all sort of typical mods you could do - wheels, lowering, body kit, etc etc..... but I'd be tempted to leave it like that.

Thanks for the nice comments, I really appreciate it.

Very clean car, are you keeping it stock or planning any mods?

Regarding mods, I am planning of keeping it mostly stock. The only possible future mods I am thinking of are new wheels, perhaps sports shocks or coilovers, and was about to do a cat delete on Monday (However, I am unsure about this and I am getting cold feet). Despite this modifications, I'd still keep all the original wheels/parts.

Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper.

Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?

Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it.

Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.

Welcome.

That is a very nice looking vehicle.  Please  whatever mods you do, keep the original parts and make sure it can be put back.

As others have mentioned, cat delete wont help with power. All it will probably do is hurt emissions.

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
