i just got my apexi power fc from nengun for my s1 r33 skyline and i wanted to know what is a decent price for dyno duning it??

ive been calling around all day, and some of the prices are ridiculous.

get this:

i was quoted at 1 place $750 for fitting and tuning.

now fitting is nothing, remove old cpu, install power fc. what a rip off.

and plz let us know of some decently priced tuners in melbourne that can help me out.

thanx guys.

Give Ice Performance in Cheltenham a ring mate

OK... i have a JAP power Excel software + Lap top interface, also have a 100 pages long of manual from Guild to Tune power FC form Japan too. I have paid someone to convert the whole Fuc*** 100 page to english too.

Now i am thinking of selling it... anyone intrested.

i called ice performance also, they werent to bad, prices start from $450 if i remember correctly.

havent called creatd, might call them.

i just didnt think dyno tuning would cost that much thats all.

thanx for the input guys. any more places??

i called P.E.T, ice, technik, JPC.

i think thats all of them

ask a workshop with a new 4wd dyno what they paid for it and you wont think the price is high afterall.

Sure, some of them can do it cheaper. But they are giving you a bargain basement price so you book it in.

They wont go into much detail with the tuning and you will end up going back spending more money because: " the cold start is shocking " doesnt idle properley " " bad economy " etc etc.

Understand these places are quoting based on how many dyno hours they estimate it to take. The average price is approx. $100-$120 per hour from memory.

A cheap price sometimes means a cheap tune. The factory engineers spend hundreds if not thousands of man hours getting the factory ecu to run as it does with the perfect cold start etc etc.

Dont kid yourself into thinking that somebody is going to come close to emulating this in a couple of hours.

oh, and if you look around this forum, in VIC, ICE has a excellent reputation and has obviously tuned a lot of power FCs on R33s.

Wont be paying them to learn how to tune it.

You would get a very good " tuning progress per dyno hour " ratio as there would be less head scratching.

ok then, thanx for the advice. ICE seems to be the favourite.

and thanx for the detailed answers.

i'll give ICE a call today and book an appointment, just hope its all worth it.

anyone know if i will be getting better fuel economy, cos at the moment its shocking

anyone know if i will be getting better fuel economy, cos at the moment its shocking

it should while cruising, yes.

my economy is dreadful, PowerFC going in within as many weeks and that should clear it up.

Others have had similar results

just got my car back from Creatd.

I swear Rob is a genius.

i got a 42rwkw gain just with my power fc and excellent tuning.

i had 178rwkw when my safcII was dynoed last year and i got 220 rwkw today with the power fc. im rapped.

as soon as my digital camera charges i'll post the dyno sheet

current mods are:

3" exhaust from turbo,

600 by 300 by 76 fmic

dual stage turbo smart boost controller

pod filter

power fc

excellent tuning

and still on stock turbo

i'd recommend Creatd to anybody

thanx Rob

how much did creatd charge. 220 rwkw it shit hot from the mods u have

most poeple get that from hiflowed turbo. very good

i paid $300

im very surprised with the results, but happy.

and the car runs so much more stable,. smoother and feels a hell of a lot more reliable

we'll see how the fuel economy is

220rwkw is way too optimistic... if you had a bigger turbz i'd believe it.

But as long as the car feels better, dont worry about high reading dynos. Driveabllity is more important

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
