Hi all,

I have an R32 GT-R with a Jasma approved FGK (Fujitsubo) cat back exhaust system on it. My mechanic says it's quite old and suggests that I upgrade to a new Fujitsubo Legalis-R cat back.

I wanted to hop on here and ask all of you for your experiences and reviews/opinions before jumping into the sale.

My current exhaust is so quiet I can't hear anything at all from it. NOTHING! All I hear is engine noise, induction noise and tyre noise (I am serious, it's really that quiet). I am in two minds about it being so quiet but more than ever before I want it to be loud (it is a GT-R afterall).

I've done a big search and found that people have suggested an HKS Super Dragger cat back. Some have said it sits too low and scrapes the ground, some say it's too loud. No one seems to suggest any other exhaust systems.

Since my car is used only for track days (and the occasional cruise around to a mates place) I want something loud but still legal.

I have an unlimited budget for this cat back exhaust and wish that I could test fit before I buy but this is not possible so any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated guys.

If your mechanic is recommending you the exhaust, then it would seem he has used it before. So ask if you can go for a ride in that car and see for yourself. If he has never isntalled the exhaust before then look around at some of the other GTRs he has worked on (sitting in the workshop?) and go for a belt around the block.

Just remmember the turbo you are running, the tyoe of cat all make a difference too

There is a 180sx in the workshop which has the exhaust he is trying to sell me. Car's not working at the moment so yes, perhaps I'll wait until it is so I can hear it.

Another thought then would be for me to try and take the resonator off perhaps and try a high flow cat and see if that makes my exhaust more audible. I might give this a go before jumping into spending over a grand for a new exhaust.

I've heard the Apexi N1 is great but yes I have also heard it's damn loud.

It has to be legal.

I already have pod filters on my car and I am a sitting duck really. Just waiting to be defected for them.

It wasn't until I realised, logically, that there are so many modifications that you can do within the law to gain more power, so why bother with the paranoia of being defected? Perhaps I'm getting old and conservative!?! :)

Mines a full system, not sure on brand of frontpipes, but the catback is 4" TRUST. Its exceptionally quiet... Got to replace it tho due to tearing a hole in the mufflers... want something as close to 4" as possible but its difficult to find!

Well it's looking like I either keep my super quiet legal Fujitsubo or go apeshit super loud?! I want to go loud but legal. I suppose this doesn't exist in a straight-through exhaust unless it has a restrictive resonator on it.

I might go down the route of ripping off my resonator first. See how that goes. I'll report back as soon as I do this next week.

I have an APEXi GT-Spec.. It's fully stainless steel unlike the N1, and it has an inline resonator...

When it was just the cat-back it was extremely quiet... Now that I've put the rest of the exhaust on (HKS dumps, HKS front pipes, 3" cat) it's gotten a lot louder, but still not too bad.

It's also a 95mm (3.74") which is as large as you'll find in japanese exhausts. There are no such things as Trust 4" exhausts, not in their current lineup at least. Their largest exhaust is the on Ronin 09 has (the TR Power Evolution II) which has 94mm (3.70")... But that exhaust sounds like a fricken CANNON :)

If you have an unlimited budget, I'd definitely suggest grabbing a Fujitsubo Super Ti

Full titanium cat-back exhaust, soooooooooo light, and sounds absolutely HORNY

Here's a sound clip of it on an R34 GTR  (P.S. On the Fujitsubo site, they have sound clips of all their exhausts)

An R33 GTR with the stock exhaust will not pass a legitimate EPA Noise Test, i doubt the R32 would be any different.

What you perceive as a legal exhaust may be over the limit.

BUT, unless the exhaust you have is rusted out and have leaks, why bother...?

You seem to be happy with it, so keep it as long as it lasts.

If the $$$ are burning a hole in your pocket, send them to me and i will mind them for you. :)

I want more sound, that's the only thing I am not happy with. When I am blasting 190km/hr down the straight at Eastern Creek people on the wall have said to me "damn man I couldn't even hear your car!". hehe. I want something louder for sure.

Merli, I have been looking at that exhaust, or the same one minus the titanium build. Looks like that's the one I will be getting if replacing my cat and taking off a resonator doesn't help.

PS: I have just put on HKS dump and front pipes and they made no difference at all to the sound.

I would have suggested to check your catalytic converter to see if it has collapsed or not, but you changed dumps and front pipes recently and would've noticed it. I can't imagine an after market exhaust being that quiet. Do you have a picture or a link to your current exhaust...?

HKS Super Dragger has a deep growl, not very loud. Nismo one sounds similar.

The HKS Hyper is very similar to Apexi N1, it really barks and considerably louder than the Super Dragger.

As Merli said, Trust Power Evo sounds like a Cannon, you cant stand it without the silencer. It sounds awesome from a distance though. I was under the impression that they weren't being made any more.

Trust Power Extreme sounds a lot tamer in comparison, don't know much about them.

IMO, quiet is your friend, especially in the metropolitan areas. Unless your exhaust is robbing you power or past its use by date, i'd keep it. :)

There are no such things as Trust 4" exhausts, not in their current lineup at least. Their largest exhaust is the on Ronin 09 has (the TR Power Evolution II) which has 94mm (3.70")... But that exhaust sounds like a fricken CANNON :)

Yes I lied... I am just lazy and rounded up hahaha

yes, it is a damn cannon! :headspin:

Guys I got the resonator taken out and a highflow cat put in and it's now a little louder, not as loud as I would like but much better. Boost is now spiking at 1.02bar (was set to max out at 0.9). So all good!!!! Looks like it's flowing better too.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
