Boosted Zed
ill be there as a spectator only but it should shape up to be a great day.Hope theres no rain.Touch wood..... I was there today and going tomorrow in the zed, WITH big skylinesaustralia sticker on the back which might confuse some. Although it does now have R34 GTR wheels. Never drifted before, on a track anyway and it is tricky with such a good handling although still relatively heavy car. As in hard to throw the big girl her off course. Smokes the tyres well though. A few skylines out doing well I saw today. Should be big day tomorrow. Worth checking out. JAS-25T
if anyone is heading up today, i wanted to know if it is safe to leave me car up there? i.e do cars get flogged from there often? cul202
Not that safe to leave your car there as I found out. I must register my distaste for fu(king cvnts who call themselves car enthusiasts only to go to car events strategically to damage other peoples property. It was good to see my car still there when I went to leave, not so good to see it sporting 2 extra pin dents, a small back to metal gouge in the paint & sone small scratches where my front 'S' badge used to be. On the positive side there was some amazing bumper to bumper drifting by the D1 boys, not to mention the crazy circle work while sitting on top of the door. Some pretty amazing car control on display. The little AE86's definately come out of the wood work when there is a drift comp on! Boosted Zed's Z to a bit of a beating during an excursion through the tyres. This was after almost losing the bonnet on the first lap. It looks to have quite a bit of grunt, I hope not to much damage was done. . Boosted Zed
Yep bonnet pins weren't engaged. Simple things. Will NEVER happen again. Carbon bonnets are strong almost no damge to bonnet only roof and windscreen. Had boost at only 18psi as hard thrashing match, so was 324rwkw, and very hard to tame this heavy beast even though it is lightened over stock. I was coming on to the straight in third rather than 2nd like everyone else and let it rip and suvived this about ten laps before it slung off into a tyre barrier. Bent one intercooler tank and one tyre flung around and hit drivers door and made a big dent. No probs will be powering Thursday at Eastern Creek for test and track tune then our track day next Sunday for the big one. Big roll up thousands of people and those Jap drivers were awesome. The blond guy doing heli's with only leg in the car only, AMAZING. cul202
I was sitting at turn 3 when the bonnet went up. Shocked the crowd, I'd say your shock would have been 'slightly' greater. From where I was sitting the Z looked to be the quickest car up the hill to the bridge. I want that sort of torque! Boosted Zed
Yes it was a scare and a shock and I can't believe how strong they are. Funny you should mention torque as we just put motor back in with new custom cams and extrusion honed exhaust manifolds and it makes so much more torque. Arouind 25% more, we could not keep it on the dyno Thursday night with anything less than four in the car and strapped down hard. 610nm at wheels and this is on 18psi 324rwkw. It made 345rwkw with 21psi prior to new additions. We will get better and wider tyres on and more people and run her up. It is a wild animal to try and keep straight. Prob better with less power for drifting as hard not to hold back. By the way did you see the big www.skylinesaustralia.com sticker on the back? cul202
Saw it at the last UAS dyno day (& the engine in the dyno shed). Oh, & in the 'incriminating photos' thread. I can see that thread's going to get out of hand... Whats the Z's weight down to? Was it a 2 or 4 seater? Wouldn't have thought they'd weigh much more than an R33 GTR. Got to be happy with 25% more torque! I'm assuming the cams are tuned to maximise average power more so than top end then. I hope there's a decent turnout at the BBQ tomorrow. elbee111
Totally awesome ! Myself, Humbla, Waynos & gf had a great day. Our guys and the D1 drivers showing what it is all about. My first look at this type of motorsport. Won't be my last. Congrats to anyone involved. A great spectacle. Duncan
Yeah in particular congrats to Darren (slo200) who qualified and made it to the top 8 shootout, the club's best effort of the weekend. Also to forum member Bakadesu! who came 3rd in the Privateer class Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/48950-sydney-drift-nationals/page/2/#findComment-1000118 Share on other sites
Boosted Zed
Yes Darren did well as it was very tough competition. We sponsor this car and he did our name well. Shame I bombed out as the arena and atmostphere was the best. I am dong the fathers day thing today. Zed is 4 seater, a bit heavier but handle much better, and normally over 1600kg but we are down on this by about 180kg. I have not weighed the car. Kel
Congrats to Darren - great effort (esp. considering this is his first drift comp?). Commiserations also to the SAU-ers who didn't make it through qualifying, despite putting on a great show. Here's a link to some pics I took on the Saturday. http://www.hgeconsulting.com.au//DriftNats...Nationals1.html My personal favourites- Darren leading his pet tyre along on its 'lead' and the antics of the D1 guys.
