where can i get my import approval forms from?

should i receive them from my import agent? (j-spec)

My gtr is also 15 in october.. So i should send it then from what i have read.

I'm surprised that your agent hasn't sent them to you or given instructions where to get them. Anyway, go here and scroll down slightly to see the download link:

http://www.dotars.gov.au/transreg/vsb/vsb_10.htm

Follow the instructions to the letter and read the part in the VSB10 docs about requirements for 15yo vehicles. Also make sure that your agent supplies some proof of age (usually Jap de-reg doc) to put with your app.

You should submit your app on 1 October for your car.

it may not even Necessarily go to sydney either (but dont sweat).

I bought my car in feb (its a july build) sent papers away 30th of june  i'm so smart :(, but then had a stuff around with dotars, cost me about 2 weeks. Now im due to get my licence back on the 27th of this month (car was sposed to be in my hands with time spare for modding).

The car got here in time but then i find out theres a waiting list to get my car on a truck to deliver. So i got in touch with Geoff from prestige to get a compliance peep in brisy, called them and they where more than happy to pick the car up off the docks, comply and hold on to it untill it can be put on a truck (to avoid storage fees which they neglected to mention) and they were CHEAPER!!!!

lucky for me to nothing was stolen!!!! (a small win for the little guy)

expecting car in about a week

remind me why we do thins to ourselves???

Hey all I hope you don't mind but I did a little surgery and split this thread into two - the last few questions seemed to be more about getting your car coming into the country, so I moved them to http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=51288

Cheers!

Vijay

I sent mine 1st of sept and havnt got anything either apart from the 'we have received it and it is being processed' crap

coommeeeoonnnn !!!

I spoke with DOTARS this morning, they are currently processing all apps received on 1/9. Mine is in their system as received on 2/9, but they said it wasn't too far away...of course what that means in real terms remains to be seen, but at least it's in there :)

Yeah, I imagine by now they have a batch processing method going .. so guess the 20th or so of each month is kind of busy for them. From what I hear they are fairly understaffed thanks to our wonderful government. So its not always their fault.

I suspect it would also be a fairly boring job - check app, check docs, cross-check database, approve/disapprove/ send for more info, move onto the next one, etc, etc.....probably not a great idea to get 'in their face' unless you want your app to 'slip' to the bottom of a very big pile.....

..... speak to annoying teen or 20-something with pent up rage trying to get their ricebox imported, etc, etc :)

On a more serious note though: it would be good if they alerted applicants to the fact their application has been recieved, is being processed and give an idea of how long they expect processing to take. I think it would save them from a lot of calls.

Oh well.

Hi all - first time poster!

I must have been a lucky one - sent my app express post on about the 25th of last month and got it through 15th of this month - car arrives on sunday. Was a bit worried about them putting it to the bottom of the pile for being early but all worked out ok.

I put a covering letter with my app asking for formal acknowledement of receipt but to no avail....

Just noticed in my bank account :D

16/09/2004 DEPT OF TRANSPORT CANBERRA $50.00 DR

Guess this means the approval should arrive next couple of days.. car should be going on the boat right about now - all good!

Mine arrived in melb two days after the date of the transaction.

how long does it take for the car to arrive in sydney once they put it on the boat?

I was going to send my Approval express post.

if the car is due to be imported for November this year, when would you send the approval form. a few days before the beggining of the month? send express and make sure it arrives there on the 1st of november?

cheers

Your looking at roughly 3 weeks for the car to arrive in Oz from Japan once its on the boat.

Definately send it express post, and theoretically you should send it so that it arrives on the first day of the month it becomes eligible under the 15yo rule (I'm assuming that's what we're talking here). That said there's someone that posted here who sent their application in several days before the car became eligible and DOTARS didn't seem to care, BUT it's a question of whether your prepared to take the risk. Theoretically at least DOTARS could reject the app so whether it's worth it for the few days invloved is debatable.

I will go to the post office on the sunday (1st/11 is a monday) and send it on the sunday express post, next day. hopefully should arrive sometime monday

now what do you have to send in

IMPORT APPROVAL FORM (4 pages including cover page)

$50 will come off my credit card in the form

what else? something about ID, what do you send? can I get it done at the post office?

    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
    • Regardless of neglect or incompetence, fixing either is tedious and annoying. Most of the neglect on my car is definitely rust. I hope I can at least pass inspections later on and they won't fail the car due to slightly corroded hardlines. I was generous with rust converter and wax and it looks ok, most lines in the rear are hard to see properly anyways.  Definitely will test them though to make sure they don't rupture under pressure, in that case the car isn't going anywhere this year.
