i would still be weary of some of the bigger name tuners, ie a place that will give you more power that employed a HPI writer to to my rb20det. never been quite the same (uses more fuel, less power) but they dont want to know about it. not everythings in a name.

heard Blackwood Dyno are meant to be pretty good with some fairly reasonable prices.

If it is $80 per hour that is very cheap.

Generally dyno time is charged as dyno time. It doesn't matter if its a dyno run or tuning. However long it takes. The normal charge is around $150 per hour of dyno time, be it tuning or just going... oh wow look at that...

Nozila - do you have any idea what Doctors or Lawyers charge?

10min Dr consult about $40

Lawyer - $200 - $2000 per hour

Don't confuse the charged rate with the mechanics pay rate. The $80 per hour covers wages, wear and tear on eqipment, rent, utilities(water elect, gas, rates), superannuation, public liability insurance, taxes, and then the shop will want to make some profit.

$80 sounds like a good price for an hour on the dyno.

$150 odd per hr. I knew tuning was expensive but i believe thats just rediculous. btw im only saying this and its biased as i havent had my car tuned yet, i know that its gonna cost me an arm and a leg when i do though.

its seems from your facts that i dont.

I rang around today to try and get my car in for an AFR check.

Blackwood Auto & Dyno were the only blokes that managed to squeeze me in.

Every one was flat out due to the Horsepower Hero event being on.

$35 for around 40minutes of their time was excellent value.

They hooked up a generic Datalogit thing that plugs in to the plug under the dash and shows all of the ecu's data. Ignition timing, o2 sensor, duty cycle everything.

After the AFR's were checked he gave it a little power run.

It made 133rwkw at 5000rpm with 15degree's & slightly over 11:1 AFR.

He was happy with the power it made on 6psi and being the small rb20t turbo.

He said on their dyno R33 RB25DET's with an exhaust and 8psi generally make that power. So that head work must be flowing well.

Even with the wastegate wired all the way open the car still made 6psi at 4000rpm which held flat until well lol 5000rpm. ;)

AFR's are all decent and safe for the run in. Car drives awesome.

So... One big vote for Blackwood Auto & Dyno.

My choice is either

Boostworx.

or

Blackwood Auto & Dyno.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
