LOL dan, this is the very reason why I wont insure any of my cars. It's ok to take your money year in, year out. But for some reason you're a criminal if somethings goes wrong or you are corse to bullshit that's it was the other fellas, fault.

Personally I find $1000+ insurance for a $20k car is insulting, shit u can insure a $5mil. house for the similar amount, and it'll have just as much risk as the car, and the other things is the mor ecars you have the less likely you wont be insuring then as a conglomerate amount it's cheaper to manage it yourself. Insurance company can go and G*T f*CK!!

insurance companies really are a joke they prey on car enthusists and the like

you can ring the same company 3 times and get diff quotes it depends on who you speak to at the time

Yeah very ture hungry...don't worry I just received the 3rd insinuating phonecall about the bloody windows...the ombudsman has been contacted this time!

I can't see why they can't just accept the police report and the full confession of the guy that stole the car??? Is it really that hard to just give me the money for my car, even when they have a responsible party???

Haha no chance in hell, wait for the bit where they ask you to supply the receipt for the cost of your car, receipt for you immobiliser, receipt and contact of who services your car, current photograph of your car etc etc it goes on!

Then they ask if your car *really* had windows, and why were your personalised plates removed (it was a stolen car duh!) am I sure it didn't have 4 space savers on it the night before it was taken!!!

Sorry to hear ^^ unfortunately myself and my girlfirend have learnt that insurance companies aren't to be trusted.. ever.. and than trying to get money out of them is very very very very very.. difficult..

as for inspections/assesments.. believe me I know what you mean..

Hope this helps some people and sorry to hog a thread like this.... CHEERS

Just wanted to give Shannon's a plug...:)

My car insurance renewal came in the mail from Just Car the other day.

$1693 for modified 97 R33 GTST, 24yr old male driver, good driving history, maximum NCB, insured for $23k.

I was pretty happy with the quote given that I was paying over $2k last year, but being the inquisitive person I am, I decided I'd give Shannon's a call just for the heck of it. I was pretty confident that they wouldn't better the Just Car quote, let alone offer me insurance at all going on some of the replies I've read in this thread, but they've come good!

They quoted me $1570, insuring the car for $24k (instead of $23k from JC) with a $1100 excess (which reduces to $500 next month once I'm 25) compared to the $1600 base excess from JC. They also offer a pay by the month option which JC doesn't.

Hope this helps some people. Just thought I'd post this up to let people know that there's another decent option to JC and Famous for insuring an import ;)

ECR033: Shannons are good if you're 25 or over (or near enough to).. but if you're under 25 they're usually about double a Just Car quote..

Shannons also have lifetime guarantee on repairs and choice of repairer whereas Just Car repairs are only guaranteed for 3 years and you can only choose your repairer if they can beat/match the quote you got from wherever Just Car sends you to (or something like that).

Also there's something different with the 'claims'.. I think with Shannons you can claim more than once a year.. can't remember, someone else could confirm :)

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
