After years of rumors and intense lobbying by Nissan enthusiasts in the U.S., Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn announced that his company plans to release a fully redesigned version of the legendary Skyline GT-R by 2007. The new version will take its cues from the GT-R concept car that has made the rounds at various auto shows over the past several years, and unlike its predecessor the GT-R will make its way to the U.S. With the 350Z already occupying a steady spot in Nissan's lineup, look for the GT-R to come Stateside wearing an Infiniti badge. A prototype caught testing on Germany's grueling Nurburgring test track made the rounds wearing the shell of a current G35, but obvious signs of serious modifications indicate it was no ordinary Infiniti. The car is expected to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in the fall of 2007 and go on sale later that year.

Edmunds is a reputable site; why would they bother with a photochop? Its much more likely its either a) not the future GT-R, B) a G35 test mule with some development parts either for the GT-R or some other car, or c) the GT-R with a hacked on G35 body shell.

LW.

This same car has been published by a few magazines already. It is so they claim the next GT-R in testing, cause in a G35 shell. So obviously they could be testing the engine, transmission/drivetrain/4WD or handling/suspension. Whether you like it or not, you can already bet it won't differ too much from that shape/style. The genes are still gonna be from both the V35 and Z33.

Justin, take a squizz at your local publication mate.

Thats what I mean, I saw it in a mag yesterday and thought "they're not serious?"... I mean it's really underdone, hence the "if thats real..." quote.
which is why I have not said it is, quote: "If it is so they claim the next GT-R in testing" (ignore the minor word missing in the sentence). But the article does support what has already been known.
Gotcha... you know, I'm rapidly losing interest now. I really hope they make a ghey US version and a "proper" Japanese version... because whats going around now is really sub-standard wouldn't you say?. Almost like they've (Nissan) have exceeded their budget or something???

exactly...I've lost interest as well...the Supras, Evos, STi everything is going worldwide and watered down.

Justin, to be honest we all know Carlos doesn't care less about the GT-R. To him it's just another Japanese car, as long as it sell that's all that matters.

-use V35 Exterior and Shell...redesign exterior styling.

-use V35 Interior...redesign interior styling.

-use e-4WD...out of March/Cube/Tiida...or whatever it's currently in.

-use JGTC VQ30DETT...stroke it!

-use JGTC suspension setup.

its a parts bins special :D

i hope that nissan realise the importance of this model and dont just reuse parts from other vehicles. I know that keep down costs a level of part sharing is required but if nissan is serious about giving the gtr a seperate identity to the skyline then just adding some tupperware to a v35 bodyshell is not the way to go about it IMHO.

I suppose it all boils down to what normally happens in business though. The guys in the marketing and design sections know what the customer wants and expects but the guys in accounting and the executive sections think that they know better so we end up getting a half assed car because the pencil pushers didnt like the real enthusiasts car. ;)

I just hope that the GTR lives up to the name.

at the end of the day the US will lap up anything with a GTR badge on it... thanks to the subculture that's forming that thinks the GTR is the shit even though they've never sat in or driven one.

In Japan they'll have to be a bit more careful, where the GTR has heritage n a huge cult following. If they bollox things up with the design of the car, and if it dosen't live up to its JGTC history, then it won't exactly go down too well.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
