hey guys,

im about to change from full comp insurance with famous to third party fire n theft with justcars. Well i just got quoted by just cars, and there was a part in the excess section that im not quite sure of. It says:

• An additional excess of $400 applies to your policy due to the modifications to your car. This excess will need to be contributed to each claim for loss or damage, including theft.

when it says ".....contributed to each clam for loss or damage, including theft" does that mean that when the mod itself is actually stolen or damaged that they will cover and replace my mod?

Im not quite sure what that means exactly. Can someone explain

so does dat mean that if i dont state the modson my premium, the premium it mite be lower and i wouldnt have to pay the extra $400 excess if it gets stolen or damaged?

Also one last thing....does the purchase price of the car affect my premium? I bought my car for 25k and if i undervalue it and state that i purchased for 20k, would that reduce my preimium price by much if any?

Thanks in advance......

Just Car Insurance: 13 13 26

Dude its probably best to just ring them up and ask.

Maybe you wanted to share the info for all to see but i dont think its any use for ppl to speculate on what it means to be surprised later when they do ring up to make a claim.

Cheers~!

well i can't exactly ask the just cars insurance company, hey if i say my car is worth less than it really is, will my preimium go down? like i cant exactly ask them dat can i? so im just tryin to get some opinions from more experienced people who have been through the same process im about to go through and have dealt with just cars as well..I find insurance companies try to rort you more then they like to help you...so i rather trust people who are in the same shoes as me, and thus fellow skyliners.

Hey mate, why did you change from Famous to Just cars for? I have got third party, with Just cars at the moment. But the reason i didnt get fire and theft as well was because they only give you $5000.00 if your car is stolen. Did you know this already, coz it seems pretty stupid to pay the extra cash each year for fire and theft, if they are gonna give you only $5000 for you $20,000- $25,000. What do u think?

The $400 is for ANY claim for theft/damage because your car is more likely to attract theives attention and more likely to crash(apparently) because it is modified.

I'm with Just Cars and I have to pay the modded excess on any claim.

Also I would not even consider lying about your mods because they can and WILL completely void any claims if you lie about whats done to your car. Is it worth the extra few hundred dollars if your car gets written off and they won't pay you a cent? I don't think so.

also take into account the 1500-2000 dollar excess, which means you only really get about 3000 in the end. i would stick with straight third party, no fire/theft coverage.

I've heard that they will do this if you fail to list any mods. Don't lie to them or they will bend you over like a true insurance company. :whip:

One would hope not considering they are "The modified insurance company"... So as long as you lsit all your mod's and aftermarket parts etc, if they agree to insure you, hopefully you'll get the cash, but i'm interested to hear of anyones problems in regards to this.

I'm surprise how no-one has asked you already.. Anyway.. Are you on drugs?

Your asking an insurance company to insure you, yet you with helding information (mods)? Your right no-one in their right mind will ask the insurance company that question (unless its a joke) , how do you think you'll react if your on the receiving end of the question?

Your right the insurance company is not one to trust as they are just a business, they have to weight the risk of insuring you with your vehicle. I would definitely suggest you ask insurance company to clarify their policy. List all your mod with your policy when you take it out, save yourself the pain that would occur later if and when something happens to your car.

I have had a full comp. policy with JC before and the policy is agreed value, meaning they charge me a set premium to insure the car for a set value.

Oh I second NJR 34GTT's comment too. :D

Burto: JC's policy states that they will insure you with watever mods as long as they are legal. Your situation seems unique, I would also be interested to find out too. Won't it make sense to ask JC now rather than later? Better to findout in advance if they are going to void your policy now then when you actually have to make a claim. Choice is yours tho.

We're currently going through a large claim with just cars...will keep you posted...so far so good :D

Don't leave out any mods.....they will joyfully point you to the clause that says you have to disclose all mods....and then refuse to pay you. By saving $400 you end up with *no* insurance.

With regards to stating a lower value than you bought it for.....is it a market value or agreed value policy? If its agreed value whatever you insure it for and whatever you pay for, is all you get if it is written off.....so yes you could save a few $$$ but you will get less pay out.

Yeah..i dun think i will be going with fire and theft either...not really worth it..but still deciding...

and drewecrome, i changed from famous to JC, because famous cancelled my insurance after they found out i had my license suspended, they also told me that they wont cover me for 3 years. So gonna change from full comp to third party with JC........

And yeah keep us posted duncan with the claim case...i hope i never have to make a claim..but just in case..=)

  • 2 weeks later...

I got quoted $1200 by Famous. The weird thing was they asked if I had received any other quotes. I said, "Yeah, Just Cars". Then they ask, "How much" so I say i will tell them but they have to give me their quote first.

When I told them I was quoted $1168 with JC, they went away & said $1100.

Also they "think" the excess was $1000 which is standard, but cannot confirm until they receipt payment.

You can also pay by the month if u wish.

I might go with them.

For an extra $68 i'd be going with an Australian based insurer, even if it is AAMI, not one situated on an island off the UK.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
