Just thought I'd add to the list - Looks like I am playing the waiting game.

I 'won' at an auction on saturday. 89 gtst 4 door, silver. I am not 100% on the details yet, my importer is getting back to me today with that and high quality pics.

He ships on Kiwi tho, and is gonna truck it down from QLD to Sydney.

I will keep ya's informed of my progress (and no doubt pics when i get them - in a different thread of course)

Has anyone considered shipping in a container? I know it is a bit more expensive (not so expensive if you share one) but it takes out the uncertainty of missing more boats. As there is only one boat to fremantle each month I am very tempted to go the container option asap. Has anyone had any experience with shipping there cars in containers?

I have been given this option for an extra $600 + moving the car to a location where it can be shipped in a container however I've decided to wait for about 3 weeks to see if a ship becomes available.

Remember Tyler - the things we own end up owning us :P

Just talked to my guy. He seems confident (wouldnt garuntee of course) that he could land mine on january 10?12? sorry i forgot... which i would imagine is the next kiwi....

i will let u's know :P

You will have to be very lucky to make the next kiwi boat. It has already started loading... cross your fingers mate, but if you do it will most likely set a record in time bought to time on boat!

Well boys, a little update on my progress:

I've just sent of a fax to engage the services of a customs agent in QLD. I've organised road freight from Brisbane down to Sydney, and I've sent off my request for an exemption to import a car pre-charged with R12. Car should be loaded tomorrow, and I'll hopefully have my BL by the end of the week. Then I'll send it to my CA, and hopefully when I get back from Japan my car will be parked in the garage at home.

I guess I'd like to see how someone that paid for their 1990 GTR in 2005 goes.

here's hoping richard

so has anyone had confirmation for there car on the ship on the 20th yet?

I got told they won't know till boxing day! god damn it. I am getting really sad over this. I don't know if importing a car was worth it.

should have just bought one that was here for a few k more

Depending on which port your car was at it may not be loaded until 24th December. Prince no.1 is loading between 20-24 December at various ports in Japan. Mine will be loaded tomorrow so I should know on Friday that it's on the water. The loading dates go: Funabashi (20-21st), Kawasaki (22nd), Nagoya (23rd) and Osaka (24th). it makes me think that those with cars in Osaka or Nagoya may have less chance of getting on if there are lots of cars waiting at the first two ports. I'm sure we'll all be ok though.

Yeah, when you realise that you can buy a decent BNR32 GTR here for around $25-$30K then it doesn't seem that cheap does it? My car will probably cost that much, and I don't even know for sure yet if it's any good. Oh, well we made our choice knowing the risks. When the car is here I'll be all smiles. No point in worrying about it now :)

Richard

well, my car is stuck waiting to be released from port in brisbane, and then it's on a truck and down to vic.

unfortunantly it wont be here b4 xmas, but hopefully i'll have it before the end of the month - depending on how things go.

If anyone is interested, here is what i've paid so far (my car was shipped on a container ship as RORO cargo - which was a bit more expensive than standard RORO).

$4000 Cost of Car

$ 200 Port Transfer Within Japan

$1018 Shipping Japan->Brizzy

$1186 Customs Duty & GST

$ 308 Transport to Melbourne

$ 660 Customs Fees, Quarantine charges, Other random fees etc.

---------

$7372

anyone here have a car coming from Kyushu? From what I saw on a map is the Japanese equivalent of Tasmania :(
yeah, apparantly that's where mine is.

Ben at J_Spec has recommended paying to get it moved to Osaka as it will have a better chance of getting on a boat. Still not guaranteed but at least better chances.

should cost about $350

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
