How the **** do you only sustain a broken leg in that sort of carnage?

Sorry but that doesnt sound realistic to me

I know, they probably covered it up because he is 30 and not making it sound bad.

Media and government will do stuff like that.... Believe it or not!

^^^^ Just be glad hes ok...

I dont think the media will lie about what happened in that situation.. They might twist it a little, but they have no right to twist the injuries of a person..

But Drive Safely everyone!!!

At this rate with crashes, in 2 years time, we will all be walking!!! I dont want to give up my Skyline, and because im on green p's, I still have anohter year to go. Just hope if they do power to weight restrictions, it will kick in after im off my greens. "Fingers crossed"

On the other hand, that guy who survived the split in 2 WRX, that is one dam lucky guy!

if the restrictions get in, i'm goin to try to apply for an exemption

only car i have in my household and i live in the hills district (pain the backside.. no trains)

i also have a clean driving record so i hope that helps

i wouldve been off my p's already but i was too lazy to go for my greens whilst i was on my reds hahaha.. delayed for like a whole year...

Something I posted on another forum, food for thought perhaps.

I have a powerful car and have had it for a year now, not one incident or damage to my car due to my driving (Except scraping my rims upon parking once and the occasional front bar scrapes on ridiculously high and shaped speed humps)

You can teach and tell people to behave all you want, this kid didn't listen to his father when he took out the car. Even if there was a power limit the car would've been taken out because that's what he wanted to do that night and that's what he did that night.

It's just people's behaviour, not laws. There will always be people out there shop lifting even though we all know its bad.

What are you going to do? Ban anyone looking suspicious from entering supermarkets? Ban all males under 25 because they have higher potential of theft?

One P-Plater dies on the road each week, there is still another few thousand out there driving without incident.

I'm pretty sure there is a more serious issue, that happens many times more that isn't getting the attention of the media or governemnt, that this topic is getting.

And on the topic of new laws and driver training.

The government says they will do correct every problem/flaw in society, but we are humans and we'll always be making mistakes. Promises and suggestions are made by Government and enthusiasts groups like us actually believe them, where in reality problems like this are so small in the whole array of problems the government has to deal with.

i agree with dezerteagle, there are sum of us out there who have clean driving records with powerful cars and im one of them. The restrictions are not going to to anything, there will still be those people who will take out the cars and end up doing something stupid.

All i can say is there are some idiots that spoil it for the rest of us.

This isnt a personal attack against you MR R33, but saying you have a clean history is all good and well, but if you are only 18 years of age then you have very limited driving experience.

I think its more about ability and experience - which when you are 18 and on your provisional license is severely lacking.

One thing i have learned. Your driving record is a poor reflection of your driving ability.

I know people who have been caught street racing and still have 12 points..

I like what dezerteagle said. The behaviour of a few people does not dictate the behavior of the rest. People will speed and hoon about like mentalists.. its fact

P plate restrictions would not stop these accidents, the kid pritty much pinched the car and went for a joyride.

exactly what i was thinking..

I agree, just because people have got a clean record doesn't mean they are a safer driver and a better driver.... it can mean that they are lucky to of never been caught doing something stupid.

I don't think that there is overly too much that the government is going to be able to do to prevent this, as someone mentioned above, it won't stop you ng people dying!

Ban from the car - they will take it anyway

Advanced driving course - Won't help when you hit a bump in the road doing 200km/h

Scare campaign (that the stupid telegraph are trying) - Won't work, nearly everyone lives by the same motto "won't happen to me" have a look at the cigarette campaigns, they try to scare you on the front of the packet, I am a smoker and I ignore it.

Take their licence - They will drive without it

I don't mean to sound negative, but I honestly can't see a solution that will change the way people act on the road. Some people drive carefully, others don't....

i agree as well

There is not much the gov't can do. But they can't just sit there and do nothing. They have to look like they're doing something. So they'll just whip up some law/rule and make it like they're doing something.

I still believe the only preventative method is attitude. Too much are young people shown the "glitz and glamour" of dangerous driving.

On the topic of 'legal record' being indicitive of driving skill:

My mum has a clean record with 17 years of driving and I will tell you now she speeds more then me. I've driven for around 3 years now and have 3 speeding fine at least of 15km or greater.

I've been to the track and taken a stage 1 driving course and wet-skid pan practice. And pretty sure I can handle sticky situation better then my mum.

Wrong place wrong time, wrong monkey wrong branch, however you want to say it.

Daily Telegraph is for uneducated bogans anyway... No offense if you read it, but it's full of crap. If you want a real paper, either get the Herald or the Australian.

However, news is just another form of entertainment these days, they're *spruce* it up however they can I guess.

from what a saw when i was there last night it looked like the the car was split from the fire wall onwards leaving the drivers side totally exposed. When the car was on its roof it looked like there was no chance of him being ok. lucky for him though

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
