Any of you R34 owners had or have heard of this problem. First some back ground info. I have had my car for about 6 months now, it is a Tiptronic-Auto. Just serviced and also has a new battery. The problem is that I seem to have some difficulty starting the car. This only seems to happen after the car has been running for some time. For example, go for a 15min drive, not really pushing the car. Pull up at a corner shop turning car off, come out a minute later and wham, the car just won't turn over. ( I let the fuel pump churn over everytime I start the car).

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. What I find strange though is that it used to start on queue first time everytime until just recently. I will try to call Nissan and see what they say.

nsm034, do you know where I can find more info if any on this R34 recall??

Skyline recalls:

http://dogandlemon.com/recall/model.php?ma...N&model=SKYLINE

A couple there that look like they could be related to your problem.

Thanks Ant for the those details. It is a very informative site. I even found the recall for my little old Hyundai Excel from many years ago in it hehehehe.

If I'm reading the site info correctly, only 2 of these recalls can possibly affect my car as my car was made in 8/2000. One of these is ruled out as it is for police cars and the other doesn't list my cars model number.

RJ-0887-0 NISSAN SKYLINE 23/12/1998 - 27/04/2001 speedometer

RJ-0946-0 NISSAN SKYLINE 25/05/1999 - 31/03/2003 brake lights

SO, I guess I am back to square one again.......unless somebody else knows or has experienced this type of problem???

So does it kick over and not start or not kick over at all?

Also 4 litres without the filter or 4.5-.4.7 (can't remember exactly) if you replace the filter as well.  More info in pm to folow.

The car starts perfectly every morning when I drive her out of the garage. (turn key count 1, 2 1/2 START. But on a hot start count 1, 2,- 10 even still won't start. Then I wind back key so no auxiliary is on then wait 20 seconds, then turn key. Count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then it turns over and starts. It is getting very frustrating.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
