Is there a replacement hand controller screen?

As an unofficial replacement hand controller screen you can check out here for a suitable 128x128 backlit LCD. It even comes in different colours to be cool. I am unsure if this model works OK with the apexi hand controller.

will it definetly work with power fc?

Hi Paul

I am still running the base map and i notice my knock is very high around 100 - 120. The engine light would blink around 5k-6k rpm range. Any suggestion to reduce the knock level to a safe amount, should i reduce the IGN Timing or Add more fuel in INJ? Pls help cos im only getting it tune probably in 2 weeks time when i install a bigger turbo.

Appreciate feedback soon....love my PFC so far on the slight torque im am feeling now.

stop trashing the car until you get it tuned properly

thats one of the first things covered in the faq

if it keeps knocking and you insist on nailing it use the temporary adjust to back out some timing, dont adjust fuel

use the temp ign adjust (in the faq) and take out about 3 or 4 degress ign timing

hi,

i want to ask if there is any way with the pfc that you tune it without the AFM at all.

thanks,

yes you can, but you need the djetro version

the normal version is ljetro and uses air flow meters

the djetro version uses map sensors

Hi Paul,

I have searched SAU, and I have viewed your intire site, (which helped me alot with my PFC).

Ive been having hicas issues, so I am requird to run Hicas Diagnostic. But for the life of us, we cannot get it working. Is this an Un-supported Feature on the PFC?

I have done the correct proceedures to enable Hicas DIag, But it just will not work.

any info would be appreciated. Thanks heaps.

cheers,

cheers,

my understanding is the hicas diagnostic is part of the hicas computer in the boot and nothing to do with the main ecu

all the main ecu does is relay the signals (tps, speed) to the hicas computer in the boot an let it do whatever it feels

so yes the hicas diagnostic shoud be suported and it should work fine, if in doubt get a stock ecu and try it with that

besides what are you trying to "diagnose" exactly?

AS you are probably aware, the Hicas light does not come on under operation (like with the A-LSD and 'slip' lights), rather it is on when the car is started, then turns the light off, and the PowerFC and the Hicas work harmoniously together to make sure all is well. (apart from poor sods with the A-lsd)

When the Hicas ECU sends the signal to the main ECU, to display the diagcode light flashes I dont think the powerFC knows what to do with that request. I mean theoretically sure it 'should' work, but its not for me anyway.

I cannot plug the standard ECU back in and start it. And you must start the car to perform the Diag test.

Has anyone else got Hicas Diag (hicas light flashes) to work, when using PowerFC.?

Hi Paul

Thanks for the advice. I actually did the test as per your FAQ for getting better fuel economy for lower load range. Presently i just lowered the 5-6k range timing. The reason why im asking between Ignition or Fuel is to know the benefit of keeping the exhaust temp cooler would be a better option since the Jap did set the based map on their 100 Ron fuel. My country only supply 97 RON. I dun mind add more fuel while keeping the original base map timing on a higher rpm range. Would u reckon thats possible?

Anyway great FAQ...recent long trip gave me superb economy. Cheers!

Paul:

If your car is tuned with the std AFM can you plug a z32 AFM without having it retuned?

:)

when you fit the z32 you select Z32 AFM from the menu

and the car will run and drive but it will need a retune as the load axis is different

the preselect menu lets you run the car with the new afm and the base settings are spot on

but it does need a dyno tune done

Hi Paul,

I have installed HKS 600cc Injector on my R32, from your Power FC FAQ I could caculate the fuel adjustment. But I can't find the Injector Latenacy, would you have a chance to have the latenacy spec. of HKS 600cc injector information.

BTW, your Power FC FAQ is a great document and help me alot on tunning this unit.

Paul,

I'd like to say Thank You!! for all the info. It has been extremely helpful. I am located in the US and there just arent very many places here to get this info.

I do have a question. I have an R33 GT-R. My Power FC has the AP Engineering sticker on it. When I open the cover it looks like the Power FC Pro with the additional brown plug like in the pictures of the different PFC models. It does not say it is a Pro on the screen though. Why would there be an AP Engineering version of the GT-R PFC? I'm just wondering if I have something strange here. Thanks for your help.

hi george

i don't know the latency of the hks 600cc injectors but when you do find it and work it out let me know and ill add it to the faq

hi donny

it sounds like you have an fcpro then, you can check this by going to ETC, VERSION and it will have PRO in the name if its a pro official version

Hey Paulr33 im new to this power FC things i was just wondering is there anythings such as Silver Power FC hand controllers? it has a part number of FCC3 030-00022 and its a silver power FC hand controller? will this fit on my Power fc? with a serial number of PFC ECR33 010-0410 any help will be cool :P

Cheers

Hi Paul

I am going to do a tune soon. Just wondering when the knock comes on between 5-6k rpm, does it have anything to do with the VVTI for the NEO engine?

Would the VG30 AFM make any difference in hp & tuning if the turbo is still stock?

hi chi,

are you sure its silver?

can you get a photo of it ?

if it is FCC3 then it should work fine on ECR33 style powerFC

hi driftmiester,

no it wont, its just normal detonation occuring

follow the standard guidelines in the powerfc faq on how to debug knocking

no the z32 afm just allows for more tuning resolution and nothnig else, its the same size as the standard rb25 AFM so it wont add power

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
