ANY COLOUR AS LONG AS IT IS BURGUNDY :P

As most of you know, i am respraying my car. I was extremely keen on the "Candy Apple Red", but when i compared a sample near my car it looked a little pinkish :). This pinkish can be eliminated by using a custom colour.

My delema is:

1/ My car is first and formost a street car, secondly a track car, thirdly and a fair bit back a "show car". So i think driving this on the weekends and occasionally going to track days will cause a few chips, etc.

2/ It is almost impossible to blend in a custom colour, should i need to touch up the paint in the future or someone hits me. Thus will never be the same and will need to repaint the whole car.

I have started to think it would be a lot better (read: smarter) to repaint it factory colour, maybe with a little more metalics, or even choose another burgundy colour from a different make/model car.

Anyone has any ideas which make/model has the deepest, brightest metalic burgundy on the market (also need year if possible)?

Al,

If you didn't take your car on country cruises or track days I'd say paint it a custom colour. However country ozzie roads + 100kmh(+) speeds tend to be pretty hard on paintwork (just look at my front bar LOL). I'd either stick with the fact. colour or pick a factory colour from another car.

As for factory burg. colours on other cars, to be honest not many stick out....I think toyota have one in their camry range.

Had a friend in a similar situation who was going to go for Candy Apple Red on his old beetle he had restored. At the last moment he changed it and we ended up with Metallic Morrello Cherry. Awesome colour and a fair bit deeper than Candy Apple, nearer burgundy.

I'd go with a factory colour from another car. Is best of both worlds:

Custom looking Skyline, not a nightmare to maintain.

Will keep my eyes peeled for nice burgudy colours - Euros and Lexus might be a good start point...

Is this a factory colour, or a custom colour from a paint manufacturer?

Can you e-mail me some pics ;) : [email protected]

Thanks

Greg: I have seen red on a R33 and i truely prefer burgundy, also do not want to go for a completely different colour. Thanks ;).

Adz: I will be changing the metalic, as most factory paints use "micro" metallics i am going a size bigger to "course". Adding a pearl will be a biatch of a thing to match, should i need a touch up in the future.

Was keeping an eye out today and saw a few of colours i need to chase up:

1/ AU Falcon - Ford came out with two burgundys for this model so i need to find the nicer one.

2/ Honda Accord (older model) - As stated on an earlier post.

3/ Toyota Corrola/Accent (New Model)

4/ R32 GTR Burgundy with bigger metalic flakes

Matt Black

That's right, and use some sort of heavy-duty paint (e.g. factory floor stuff) and put it on with a roller! ;)

In all seriousness, find a colour put one of the big four ( Commodore / Falcon / Camry / Magna ) that is to your liking, get them to a bit more pearl and metallic and make sure you write down those quantities.

Mate I knew with 99% certainty that was going to be your question, the other 1% hoped you had seen something similar! We painted it about 5 1/2 years ago and lost contact (he is back in the UK). I can see if I can find some online pics of it somewhere as it was quite popular. Run to the Sun is the big VeeDub thing over there so I will have a look round that. Was a fantastic shade.

I seem to remember it having something to do with either Amercian vehicles (cars/bikes) or beetles.

Will see if I can find something but I am sure it was not a custom colour.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
