I'm doing the same conversion into my 32. I've got the bottom end all ready to go. The biggest problem Ive had so far is finding a rb25 n/a head without (vvt) I try'd out the 33 head but their is way to much work in modifying the water/oil gailrys on the head.(oil activates the vvt set up). Not to mention the wireing involved. Still trying to figger it out.

1. Anyone know where I can get a 32 rb25 from?

2.The Dayco Timing belt is $90 from autobarn.

I can get them for $60 if anyone's interested.

  ( 0403541636 )

i think you can just use the series one RB25 head off the R33 which doesn't have VVT, some please correct me if i'm wrong or you could also use the GTR head which doesn't have VVT but i think they go for a lot more than RB25 heads (anyone clarify prices for these?) RB26 Head!

I would also recommend if this is on a budget, dont forget the hidden estras with the build, which can quickly blowout costs....from your list above lets say :

1. rebuilt rb30e bottom end rebuilt with std pistons etc - $1000 (including purchase)

2. rb25de head $750

3. An Rb20det AP Power FC can be gotton for cheap second hand...Cubes got his with HC for $1100 ish....wiring up a rb25 loom adds say $600 on the price of the purchase of the loom + rb25det computer etc.....

4. timing belt - $30

5. extra pulley (tensioner rb30e bearing) - $80

6. Rb20det gearbox - u got one...see how long it lasts...ud be suprised

7.rb20 turbo...$0 (Garrett GT35r will cost $1850 odd + manifold + ext. wastegate)

8. Extreme clutch - i had one with the rb20, now the os twin i got i run in mine feels better on the street than the extreme....

9. Rb25de lower half of inlet, rb20det upper half (with throttle body), rb20 exhaust manifold.

10. rb20det sump

11. rx7 injectors (dont need a regulator if you upgrade the fuel pump instead....have you yet?) say....$500 + $350 for pump

12. Head gasket - cheaper to buy a VRS kit for the rb25de head - $cant remember...lol...

13. oil pump - rb20det, water pump - rb30e ($80)

14. Bearings - take your pick ....ACL, King, etc......dunno cost

15. Q45 afm - $300

Thats roughly just over $4000 (not including everything above)

If you are not doing the work yourself, add installation labour, tuning....you will be close to $10,000 before you "finish" (read bigger turbo) with it.....

Any hassles come up (mine for instance wouldnt idle straight away, needed a bigger fuel pump + injectors, and needed a tune)

It can be a budget motor, but only if you do most of the work yourself. Dont let me put you off, but think seriously of doing this before spending.....

I have upgraded the fuel pump to a GTR item!

All R33's have VCT. The extra work in making VCT work is minimal. Run an external feed from the oil pressure sensor to the VCT oil gallery. Block off the original feed in the head then have a welder add some material to the head to match up the coolant galleries and surface it. It's not rocket science! Any machine shop can manage this.

Yeah rb26head is about 2k...minimum.....3k closer to the mark.

There is a RB25 non vtec head going in the forsale section for like 200 or sometihng similar atm (need valve springs i think, good idea to replace em anyway) its at top of the classified in a sticky tread donation sale

6 x 270cc injectors at stock fuel pressure at 100% duty cycle should flow enough for ROUGHLY 324hp at the engine. (27x2)x6) = 324

that is ROUGHLY 226kw at the engine (I think)

that is ROUGHLY 181rwkw (if you say 20% loss to the rears....)

are my calcs wrong?

I know for a fact that just an upgraded fuel pump does not increase the pressure (at least my walbro one didn't over the stock S14 item)

someone help me out here..

how can 270cc injectors be pushed to produce 240rwkw at 70% duty cycle with the regulator.

I understand that an increase in fuel pressure will in a way make the injectors flow more than 270cc but THAT much more?

I'm kinda happy that this is so.. saves me buying injectors at the begining.. but I want to see others thoughts.

very helpful, as always sydneykid, one more question for now, putting this in an R32 u need to drop the motor round 15mm, just wondering doesn't this cause the gearbox to no longer line up? and exhaust etc?

Won't cause any problems that I have seen. The tailshaft uni joints are on angles, a little more won't matter.

The exhaust is not solid mounted.. so that won't be affected.

I have my RB30 mounted in my S13 with it lowered 15mm, and I just fitted an RB26DETT box that I have modified. I will be running a one piece tailshaft. All fits quite nice considering.. (only a little hammering :( )

GTST:-

What you can calculate on paper doesnt always turn out that way in the real world.

The increased fuel pressure makes the injectors flow a fair bit more.

All i can say is ive done it with 2 of my own cars, a few mates also run good power with stock injectors, so ive seen it work many times.

Why not give it a try.

thats what i wanted to hear, this is all very helpful and thanks to everyone once again, now to go checkout this head!

mr_rbman,

For engine mounts head down the Shaun at Boostworx.

I bought my R32 RB25 head 2yrs ago from Adelaide jap for $750.

Take what Adelaide Jap say with a pinch of salt as they really don't know what parts are from what car.

They claimed my RB25 head was a R33 RB25 as the R32's didn't have a RB25 lol.

This was 2yrs ago so they may be a little more informed these days. :D

Wait till you get to the gates of heaven ... you R32 owners running Rb25s and RB30s.

God himself is upset by this conversion, and will no doubt send you straight to hell for this heinous crime :flamed:

lol, but we just wont to go fast and will do it anyway possible, all i know is 350rwkw rb25 is alot faster than the old 230rwkw rb20, just a pitty it costs a few $$$

Roy... What power are you making?

How much have you spent not including all the fires and buggers ups? Just the setup. :)

How much have I spent.. ummm 7.5k and counting. :D

How much power?? lol.. Bugger all. More money needs to be spent to get the bigger turbo on.

I'm going to book it in for a tune in a week or two. I've sorted out the fueling. :D

I am very interested what the stock turbo can do on 11psi.

At the moment @ 11psi knock levels are around 20, rolling on in second gear lights the rears up from 2200rpm and flicks the tacho to 6000rpm, it seems to rev just as good as the rb20 but holds you in the seat much harder, especially in 4th and 5th. :D

I can see traction problems becoming stressfull. :D

LOL..stir the hornets nest:)

Ok if i had my time again...These are the prices i picked my gear up for.

HKS Type S Intercooler - $1150 (Combo of my own piping and HKS piping)

Apexi Power Fc c/w hand controller (tuned with ) - $2,300

Z32 AFM - $300

Trust TD06-20G with manifold and wastegate, injectors and some lines & piping $3,300

Clutch and flywheel - $1200

AVCR - $650

What came with the car;

- HKS Air Filter - $300

- HKS 3" exhaust - $1300

At 22psi it made somewhere around 250-260rwkws, at 17-18psi it makes 235rwkws for an average power of 208rwkws between 4,000-7,000rpm (Perhaps around 215rwkws if i bump up the rev limit)

So realistically to get 235rwkws out of my RB20 it cost me $9,000 all up including labour

Throw in the dead engine that got warrantied ($600) and the fire ($400) and it comes in under 10k.

Problem is there was a 3 month window when a mechanic was working on the car instead of me and friends and that soon added close to 5k to the bill with nothing to show other then other problems. It was just one of those things:(

Sh1t, im so depressed now.:D Its a lot of money to get so little power, i mean POWAH. But if i could be farked i have priced an RB30DET for about $6,500, thats with cams, pistons and rods. $7,000 with a bit of porting

Then i would need to get my TD06 rebuilt and hi-flowed using either a 25G compressor or a GT30 wheel (and back to 10cm exhaust housing) About $1400..RB25 gearbox and twin plate clutch with modded tailshaft. $3100

So to go from 235rwkws to 335-350rwkws it will cost another $11,000:(

It would be great and so envious of you boys doing it, i really am. But i just cant bring myself to spend that sort of money, right now its not what i want to be doing with what little money i have, and id rather spend the money on going to the track to enjoy the pea shooter:)

LOLO...i thought id just make a nuisance of myself and pigeon on about RB20s:)

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
