lwells
Ok, the plot thickens. I spoke to George at ABS (Kirawee, Sydney) who said the following: 1) They have no listing for the R32 Skyline (no suprise) 2) The part numbers that SteveL mentioned are not "PBR" (WTF that is) part numbers, but Lucas Europe numbers. 3) SJ6070 has been replaced with 210E001 4) Price are as follows: Front (axel kit): $105 Rear (individual): $80 ea (thus $160 for an axel) TOTAL = $260. Bit different to $100 ... Thoughts? LW. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/67830-what-is-a-caliper-overhaul/page/2/#findComment-1272634 Share on other sites
SteveL
I spoke to George at ABS (Kirawee, Sydney) who said the following:1) They have no listing for the R32 Skyline (no suprise) 2) The part numbers that SteveL mentioned are not "PBR" (WTF that is) part numbers, but Lucas Europe numbers. 3) SJ6070 has been replaced with 210E001 4) Price are as follows: Front (axel kit): $105 Rear (individual): $80 ea (thus $160 for an axel) TOTAL = $260. Hmmm, someones making a killing. Earlier I spoke with Paul at Ferntree Gully ABS where I got my kits and he gave me the following prices: SJ6070 - $53.45 SJ6024 - $77.80 So that's $131.25, which is almost exactly half what you were quoted. Only thing I didn't check was whether GST was included or not. He also confirmed that each kit does an axle set (ie 2 calipers). It is interesting that your prices are almost exactly double. I also had a look at the invoice for the kits I bought and I was charged a fraction over $100, so prices have gone up about 30% based on my original purchase in December 04. Still, $260 is way over the top and you might as well look at genuine kits for those $$. To answer your other points: 1. They don't list R32, but Z32 300ZX uses the same caliper kits and this is where the PN's come from (I have confirmed using FAST). 2. The kits I got are made in Japan (they had little instruction books inside in Japanese), but the boxes had 'Lucas/TRW' on the outside. 3. PBR is basically the brake division of Repco (Precision Brake something-or-other, I think). 4. The PN's I gave are still valid as far as ABS FTG are concerned, go figure. If you want to check out the price for genuine part repair kits, these are the PN's to quote your local Nissan dealer: front - 41120-30P25 rear - 44120-43P26 I think you need 2 of each (ie 1 kit does 1 caliper in this case). My brake master looks brand new and I think it was recently replaced so I didn't bother with it. I can check the PN for the o/haul kit in FAST if you want. Roy
Bugger:confused: So are the Z32 parts numbers the same as S14 200SX fronts? My understanding is that they are the same for the front calipers, and the Z32 and R32 fronts & rears are the same. The calipers cost about $90 + postage from memory to be HPC coated. I wouldnt really expect too much in the way of fluid temp difference despite their claims, but the finish is durable so?!?!?!?!? SteveL
So are the Z32 parts numbers the same as S14 200SX fronts? S14 caliper kit is 41120-30P26, which is slightly different from R32/Z32 number (26 instead of 25), but also seems to be progression in part numbers that suggests it might be a supercesion (ie seems to follow the normal Nissan pattern for superceded parts). Easiest way to find out would be to ring a Nissan parts department and ask if the -30P25 number supercedes to -30P26. My understanding is that they are the same for the front calipers, and the Z32 and R32 fronts & rears are the same. Can't speak for S14, but Z32/R32 GTR rears are the same. Z32/R32 GTR fronts use the same pistons/seals/boots, but the caliper bodies are different - they have different mounting lugs due to the different disc diameters, plus there are detail differences on the outside surfaces (Z32 have ribs, R32 GTR are smooth) The calipers cost about $90 + postage from memory to be HPC coated. I wouldnt really expect too much in the way of fluid temp difference despite their claims, but the finish is durable so?!?!?!?!? Coating would be largely cosmetic, but give some abrasion/corrosion protection. Can't really see it giving much performance benefit. Lunatic Dancer
Yes the part no.'s that SteveL gave are still valid as i've just rung ABS from work. SteveL can you tell me whether those rebuild kits fits the R33 gtst and R34 GTT calipers? SteveL
SteveL can you tell me whether those rebuild kits fits the R33 gtst and R34 GTT calipers? Really need a chassis number to be sure because there are a few variations for R33 GTSt depending on year of manufacture. For cars built between 93 and 96 the 41120-30P25 is valid for the front cals, and 44120-43P26 is valid for the rears. So the ABS kits would be suitable. For R34 GTT the 41120-30P25 is valid for 98-99 cars, but the rear cals have a totally different seal kit PN: 44120-5L326. Again, it would be better to have a chassis number. Lunatic Dancer
Yeh...getting chassis numbers will be a problem as these calipers are for my 180 5 stud conversion... and since all of them are pulled off wrecks in japan.... What year does the series 2 r33 gtst come in again? They would still have identical calipers to the series 1 though right? Also do you work for nissan? cowie165
Yes the part no.'s that SteveL gave are still valid as i've just rung ABS from work. ABS East Maitland have the same part numbers (that Steve quoted) and are overnighting the parts. We'll see how we go! NB Front: $50.00; Rear: $75.00 Mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/67830-what-is-a-caliper-overhaul/page/2/#findComment-1281486 Share on other sites
lwells
Hi Guys, Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that SteveL was giving out the wrong information: frankly I am far more inclined to believe him than anything a sales goon has to say The point I was trying to make was that ABS (in Sydney, at least) had NFI and wanted to charge the earth. Hence I was wondering if anyone had other experiences lately. Seems like ordering from Vic is the way to go. cowie165: Please report back when you recieve the parts. Lucien. Lunatic Dancer
Iwells please understand that my post was not meant to come that way... Maybe try another abs in syd? You should be getting prices similar to cowies. lwells
Lunatic Dancer: No problems, just wanted to make it clear I wasn't knocking Steve Mark: Goods arrive? Lucien. cowie165
Guys the o-rings arrived today. The SJ6024 (rears) was manufactured by 'Lucas' and made in Japan. From the instructions inside, I can make out that the kit is designed for May 89 onwards HCR32's. And all the rest makes as much sense as my 2yr olds drawings. Looks like a good piece o kit. The SJ6070 (front, now 210E0011 just like Lucien mentioned) were manufactured by Protex. I'll give it a go this weekend and report back. DBA4000's arrive tomorrow, so I can finally turf the 29.6mm discs. Bring on the pedal feel! Lucien if you're still keen for a set and the Syd crowd are messing you around, let me know and I'll order another set and send it down to you. The price was $131 inc. shipping. lwells
Mark: That's really kind of you, thanks. I will give ABS in Melbourne a call and see if I can get them to send me down a set, and if so, how much. If all else fails, I might take you up on your offer Interested to see how your brakes are post-overhaul. And would still like to know if anyone has found an overhaul kit for the master cylinder.... cowie165
Perhaps for comparison purposes, and if it isn't too much extra work, I'll change the rotors first and go for a drive before I attempt the caliper overhaul. cowie165
Picked up the rotors today. Due to a quote stuff-up, Repco sold me DBA4000's for $181.00 each. Reminds me of monopoly, "Bank error in your favour..." I think that saving deserves a little celebration. "Cue the dancing bananas..." *insert circus music here* :bananaman :bananaman :bananaman :bananaman :bananaman Yay. lwells
Bump. Mark, have you had a chance to play with the calipers yet? Cheers, Lucien. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/67830-what-is-a-caliper-overhaul/page/2/#findComment-1317680 Share on other sites
cowie165
Hi mate! Sadly, no. I was all set to do it on Sunday, then realised I still haven't sourced a torque wrench. There's one on eBay atm which I might place a bid on. Btw, do your pads actually touch the disc? Mine are that hard up against it you can hear the rubbing when driving at low speed (<60 with window down). Not sure if that's normal or not. I haven't ever heard it on any other cars I've owned/driven. Mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/67830-what-is-a-caliper-overhaul/page/2/#findComment-1318144 Share on other sites
B0oStEr
I rang ABS from Taree and ordered the Protex 210E001 kit and only received a kit for one caliper. A phone call fixed it up but there seems to be some confusion with their supplier as to whether the kit was for one or both calipers. PuLsEz
Picked up the SJ6070 axle kit for a pair of Z32/R32 turbo front calipers for around $40 from Springvale ABS. It's a Lucas brand kit with a green box if that helps anybody... but just want to confirm it's contents if anybody could let me know what came in there?
