it is slowly coming out......

so I gather the white's GTR has monster brakes! and now we hear of factory under the table support with pistons etc.... sounds to me Nissan Jp seriously wanted to win what is now the best road car tar rally on the planet....

next year will we see a factory backed nismo team??? ok pipe dream maybe, but imagine richo back in a nissan product!!! :(:D:D:D

hmm wouldn't that be nice....but it would snow at Targa before it happened.

Yeah brakes are free, as are shocks and springs, and ECU. Zorst has to be standard diameter and location but thats about it.....I understand the 34 N1 has forged pistons standard as well as the larger turbos, no Air Con, no wiper.

Our amazing crew drove to Ross, meeting one of the boys wives who had gone to my shed... and she actually grabbed a std oem gasket box from all my crap... (we couldnt get the car out of the expo till 10:30pm without penalty)

All this only to find that Dave Griffiths "Griffiths Automotive" had a gasket set waiting with a coffee when we arrived.

If you have an import, try Dave... very switched on and a nice guy to boot.

13th on Day one was a reward for our crew... but you cant aim a top 30 car at the top 10 in Targa - it will end in tears - and it did.

We have proved a GTSt can win class and finish 24th ('03) Next time I am going to prove what I can do in an outright contender....

They are almost identical to the current Targa regs (only read the modern regs). Are you allowed to modify boost in the current regs?

Exhaust must be no larger in diameter than the largest part of the stock system.

So if one part of the exhaust is 3.5 inches, the whole thing can be.

The differences are subtle, but sizeable.... For example an R32/R33/R34 N1 under the proposed rules must run standard ECU and Exh, no boost, no brake cooling ducts, no coilovers.... while a base model R32/R33/R34 can have all the current mod's allowed in LMS, but of course non none of the standard N1 good bits like coolers etc to ensure you don't need to rebuild the engine after each event and the only reason people buy or replicate N1s in the first place!

Also - the talk of these regs going across to all events is stupid.

It means those of us with highly modified cars will no longer be able to compete in events such as the Dutton Rally's or GP Rally etc. We'll be limitted to club sprints and thats overated.

Its seems to be a Porsche driven initiative as they would be the biggest winners by far to these proposed changes.

These regs are aimed at CAMS approved International and National tarmac rallies only such as Targa Tasmania, Rally Tasmania, Rallye Burnie, East Coast Targa and Mt Buller Sprint etc.

Touring Road events such as Dutton and Grand Prix Rally will not be affected.

Yes, Porsche are the big winners, but only because they produce the best car!

911 GT3/GT2/Turbo's could all be fairly accurately called race cars built for the road with little compromise.... a GT-R is a road car with large scale production compromise that is raced.

Also - the talk of these regs going across to all events is stupid.

It means those of us with highly modified cars will no longer be able to compete in events such as the Dutton Rally's or GP Rally etc. We'll be limitted to club sprints and thats overated.

I think the idea of one set of regs whether the draft ones or a revised edition is the way to fly.

It means you can read the regs, select a car, then go racing with like minded people... when regs allow high level of mods, then cubic dollars wins.

In tarmac rally, they are trying to group cars relative to performance, and so far have done a good job.

There are many other issues that need to be addressed for the longevity of the sport... Timing for instance is a must! And the fact an event like TT will need 3000 CAMS accredited officials next year will surely see it turned into a clover leaf event AKA WRC & ARC.

The new draft suits STi & EVO's plus Corolla's as you can run one of Batesys prototypes.... I dont know if thats good or bad, but the sport must improve in its admnistration or punters will talk with their feet

For those who aren't sure already, this guy knows his tarmac rally stuff, and its great to have him in the forum.

Octagon as a shareholder driven organisation, have the right to derive profit from the performance of it operating arms.

In Targa Tasmania, they have a core product so good, that people will come to compete... they will even continue to compete many times despite the lack of procedures in place to guide the poor volunteers, despite a timing system that simply does not reflect the status (International) of the event.

The technology is available for timing, but we seem to be trialled with cheap homegrown alternatives... I would suggest most competitors would not flinch at cost sharing (similar to Dorian) if it meant timing issues were a rarity rather than a common occurrence.

If CAMS accreditation gives people in positions like CROWS(some are great) more an idea of their job description - great. (They are meant to be competitor reps - not event organiser defenders)

However, from my opinion, we are about to see the greatest Tarmac Rally on the planet slip into oblivion if the slide is not arrested. The contribution it makes to the Tassy economy will go and all those who have yet to compete will have the history books to look at...

To Octagon, I plead by way of this open letter.

Please deliver a timing system that works. Please keep a good relationship with local councils so the roads are not sealed prior to the event. Please show the competitors you are giving us something back for the increased revenue generated by increased event sponsors (the window band cost me personally $5000.00)

Please do not let Targa Tasmania go the way of it European ancestors.

Please help your band of volunteers by putting procedures in place to cover unusual situations.

Please ensure an efficient TRA is carried out. (It will drastically lower the risk of Natone type incidents). Please dont let TT slide.

These are but a few things, which will help ensure the projected date Calender will run its course for many years to come. Something we all wish. If t01-100, have the ear of people who count, please pass this on as contructive criticism...

Our team will be back, I hope, to accept the Challenge. And I suggest If you want a week of stress, emmotion, adrenelin, fun, and new friends all rolled into one. Do Targa Tasmania.... next year.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
