The Melbourne Auto Salon was held over the weekend at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and is without doubt one of the biggest indoors shows of the year. The Dyno cell is always a popular spectacle with big power from all classes.

XTC Engine Management and Turbocharging (03 9354 1198) setup their 4WD dyno and for the second year running Ice Performance took outright honours. David Lee’s ‘RBDET’ GT-R Skyline ramped up 604kW at all four (reclaiming the 4WD record) on Saturday while in RWD mode also made 608kW struggling for traction. Nigel Beale’s bright orange ‘DAMN’ Supra wasn’t too far behind with a very strong 585kW reading. Benny Kashima’s Chasers Drift S13 punched out 333KW from it’s Nissan SR20 engine and tied for the 4-cylinder class.

The Autosalon series now moves to the Sydney Showground (May 14-15) and will be back in Melbourne for the semi final event (November 12-13).

I guess they lose the passion...they look alright to me though. I can't stand when "professional" photographers have blurry images!

Really nice photos from all the SAUers, looks like you're enjoying that camera Dark. Great work on the stand guys (and girls!), good to see Dave's GTR back on the dyno and reclaiming the AWD record.

haha, i dunno.

i guess im just pissed off about it, because the fullboost editor was meant to get back to me before autosalon started about being a photographer for them..

but im not sure what happened to our discussion...

i would've appreciated it if he even at least said no... but he didnt deny it, nor confirm it..

haha, yea, i love it.

i gotta save up $500 for the 50mm f/1.8 and the 55-200mm USM lens

i -really- want the canon 10-22, but that costs almost as much as the camera itself.. lol

any pics from you Greg?

Couple of things, my new speedlight didn't arrive on time (so I could take flash photos of shiny surfaces!) but also it was the Russian (and Greek and few others') Easter over the weekend so I had heaps of family commitments.

Really wanted to go though, just the timing was bad for me this year.

i need naaawwss!!! :(

when's the next one guys? September? f*ck if my car ain't ready by then i'm going to f*cking kill myself... or the car, one or the other. Looks like a great weekend, and i keep missing 'em ;)

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
