BTW I have read that Speed article, but it really is just an opinion piece. I can't see how they're "PRO's". Sure they've probably driven a lot of cars and are more qualified to judge the cars than me, but aren't they just fellow enthusiasts driving cars and then writing about them?

Look.. if it soo different league.. GTR as u say..

why they put into Supra and GTT in the contest?? and Supra came LAST??

isn't it suppose to be other way around ... if SUPRA was SOOOO good in GTR league!!!

Anyways... i think SPEED guyz have good opinion.. because they have driven more cars and been though more than us i am sure if it....

And i am sure they not biased....

BTW.. power dont mean EVERYTHING.. is the overall proformance etc etc... Just look at RX-7... was the least power from the DYNO... and WIN....

who buyz car just for 0-100?? or 1/4 miles... If so just buy a drag car... :headspin: lol

Anyways.. this post.. is not clear on what is needed.. Is to general.. just GTT vs Supra.. Does he want Stock vs Stock or Mods vs Mods....

I don't know why they put them in the same comparison. And yes' date=' it is a little strange to me that the Supra came last. I'm sure Speed aren't biased, but every other review I've ever read says the Supra handles really well and goes damn hard. It's almost always compared to the GTR.

Anyway, lets just say that you'd prefer a GTT and I'd prefer a Supra

Yeah then it's a clear win for the Supra, but I was assuming they were stock.

?? sign.. read that article again plzz.. both modified in same way...

SUPRA has more power... and Lasttttttt...

GTT less powerful still better than supra.. win..

WHAT is soo hard to understand?? lol...

SURPA Lost... lastttttt...

If u don't think so... give letters bk to SPEED..(love to see u do it, and what comments from the PRO will give u hahaha )...!!!!

Anyways.. i don't want to say more.. u have ur say.. i have mine...

Does he want Stock vs Stock or Mods vs Mods....

either

That Supra coming last in that magazine could have been due to lots of things such as supra not been tuned as much as others for circuit specs or could have been a shit driver not used to the supra's capabilities.

All had the same mods Supra had big power and great speed in a straight line but just couldnt match the others when it came to handling ect

There's nothing hard to understand. I don't know why you're still talking about this speed article. I know more power doesn't automatically mean it's better, and I didn't say that. I think I'll pass on writing a letter to speed just because I disagree with their review too.

I'll just leave this discussion here as this really isn't going anywhere

a few years ago my favourite jap sports cars were supras. I saw a black one with no wing, lowered with these huge magz and I was in love. Problems started when I kept seeing supras around that looked crap, HEAPS of them. My love affair cooled to just an appreciation.

The supra is a nice car and I would love to own one. But over a much less common more modern design better driving car?

SIF

*moan GTT*

how much would either of these cars set you back? on road, relativly stock?

well all depends on what year u want. Late model Supra's are expensive eg 97 Rz will set u back like $40-45k, 98 with vvti like $50k? GTT's range from like $28k-$40k also depending on year.

I'd go the GT-T purely on looks. Looks wayyyyyy better than a Supra, also, R34s are rare, compared to Supras.

Performance wise Supra would win.....but that's what mods are for. I'd go the Skyline anyday.

Oh yeah, this Nissan, Toyota stuff......LoL both are Japanese Manufacturers, kinda like comparing Holden and Ford. You can't say for example, "the skyline is better because its a Nissan" or vice versa. Same budget production methods.

when buyin my car

my first choice was a supra as i've always wanted one since i first saw them

however, with the money i spent on the r34, i wouldve only gotten a 93-94 supra which is a bit too old for my liking and i didnt want to spend $$ on problems i could avoid

imo, supras are becoming very common.. however, thats not to say the r34 isnt fast becoming the same

both are great cars.. supra will kill the GTT in terms of straight line and power output whilst the GTT is more of a cruiser/daily driver which still have enough go to have fun

99-2000 rz supras sell for about 1.8 mil jpy in jap auctions , thats for a 6 sp manual with 50 k k's on the clock .

98-2000 gtt's sell for about .1.6 mil jpy for a 5 speed manual with the same k's .

As you can see there is not much diff in the price of the 2 .

Both have 206kw but supra has 451 n/m and gtt has only 333 n/m

Supra has even heaps more torque that the 34 gtr (only 392 n/m )

Supra weighs 1510 kg and gtt only 1410 kg .

I don't know wich is quicker in straight line but i dont think there is much in it , on the other hand the 34 gtr is much quicker than both .

In May 98 the gtt ( release date ) was selling for 2.9 mil jpy and the rz 4.5 jpy ( in august 99 )

The gtt has a better resale value than the rz ( in japan )

By comparison in january 99 Gtr sold for 5 mil jpy and V-spec 5.6 mil .

I dont know which car is better between the 2 , i think is a personal opinion as they are both good cars .

I think i would buy a 33 gtr for about the same money as the supra .

I think they aren't in the same comparison. For me i want thrills from a car. I like nissans a lot, but the supra holds more for me, and is the only toyota that does. One fact is that you can easily get over 650hp @ wheel with bolt on mods.. If anyone has seen a video of the walser supra beating a hyabusa on the highway, it had 2835 twins, cams, 70hp nitrous, and stock bottom end.Try that in a gtst, or even a gtr. Also the gearboxes and diff's are much stronger. I dont know how many cars i've seen run 9's @150mph with a stock box and just a diff center changed.

Handling can be fixed quite easily, but if your comparing stock 2 stock then sure you probably have a point. But with properly setup suspension im sure the supra wouldn't handle that much worse if any than a GT-T, and there is no way that with mild mods a GT-T would stick with it in a straight line.

Thats just my opinion based on my preferences, im sure others have different tastes.

Also i think the 2JZ is the king of sound... very tough sounding engine

agree there! in stock form, the gtt is a much nicer car to drive. but for modifying, the gtt is not in the same league as the supra.

but again, for the money of a RZ, i would save alittle bit more to get a R34GTR :P

    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
