Hello this is my first post so forgive me if there is something repeated.

I am thinking of buying either an R32 or R33 GTS-T and was wondering what the pro's and con's are of both models...power, interior, looks etc. I was told by many that the R32 is lighter and hence a better all round car, is this true. I would also like to know wether an R33 could keep up with an R32. By the way i've used the search and found no relavant info.. Thanks for your help.

r33 is slower, bigger, but more practical. refined handling characteristics make it less fun to drive, its newer.

r32 is quicker, smaller, more enjoyable handling characteristics, less of them around. Older, but if you find a good example this shouldnt matter.

You sound like you care more about how the car drives than pulling the chicks at maccas, so get an r32. Test drive as many as you can before you make a decision.

guess it depends on what you can afford.

I picked a S2 R33 gtst cos it was a newer and larger car. I've found it a joy to drive, although I haven't driven a R32 to compare.

looks are a matter of opinion. i'd definitely pick a series II over a series I R33. A Do-luck or Vertex kitted 32 looks awesome but. Just really depends on what you wanna do aswell.

Interior wise. R33 has more room, being a bigger car. Again, not a big fan of the series I interior (seats), although the dash and that are the same.

Go visit a few on sale and make up your mind then!

pentae, just becasue you got an r32 doesnt mean its the best:

I have a dvd which shows a race between all the model skylines with the inclusion of a evo and subaru. The R32 GT-R came last. Its a nice car but is just too much of an old car that EVERYONE can buy now. I see R32's as much as R33's now on the street. And i wonder what the year on them is? 1989 or 1990.

The R33 is more practical, faster, cheaper to make more power, an interior that doesnt look like a Holden Commodore VN (R32 interior). All together its a newer car, less things will go bang on it. So it spends more time on the road and less in a garage.

LoL...I have a dvd, therefore that race represents all R32s as a whole. What are u on about man? I don't know what one off race ur talkin about, but the 32 was the king of the JTC...and ever heard of bathurst? GTR 32s are officially the quickest out of all series, followed by r34 and last r33.

Also, I still don't think there are anywhere as much 32s, as 33s on the road. BTW R33s are also old cars now.

In the end though, when you are comparing GTST's, i'd go the 33. GTRs are in different league altogether.

Think I saw that one. Think I remember a 350GT V35 in there also which beat the 32GTR? 33GTR was bout in middle. R34 won but evo and sub gave it a good workout.

Maybe getting my vidz mixed up. I remember the Jap guy in the 350 saying he would be really upset if the 32 beat him but he ended up ahead i think, by the end. The 33 then 34GTR although heavier have torque, age and technology pushing them ahead.

"was"

I rest my case

Sure. So "was" the r33. So you're not really making a point are you?

If you don't like R32s fair enough man, I like Skylines in general, including R33s. But you can't rant on about R32s being no good becuase they're old. In that case the only Skylines that are new are R34s....see it doesn't really make sense?

i think you'll find alot of people on here ar bias, as i own an r33 i will tell you they are better in most cases, and same for 32 owners :(

so it does come down to personal preferences alot, the only way you can decide this with out being told by other people is to do factual research and most importantly test drive, true that the 32 is older then the 33, however in comparison to local dealership cars of the same age they are elite.

power and handling wise can be compremised these days so easily through mods that its more a case to identify which car is a better "base" providing you buy a stocker and have plans to mod, i suggest you go an test drive various 32's and 33's including the 32 gtr, as if you are potentially in the market for a 33 gts-t then a 32 gtr isnt too much firther out of that price bracket

just my 2.416 cents

krzysiu: Just because I happen to own an r32 doesnt mean I cant vouch for the r33's good points. Infact I mentioned quite a few of them to have a stab at an unbiased post. My best mate had an 800hp r33 GTR in 2000 before most people knew that the r33 existed, and i was re-introduced to skylines with this car. I even said their handling is more refined..

The fact is I own an r32 because I have thoroughly driven r31s, 32 gts-ts, gtrs, 33 gts-t's, a 800hp 33 GTR, a 34 GTT and a 34 GTR. I've owned a Pulsar Gtir and an sr20det s13 that both destroyed gts-t's.

Jumping into a GTS-t to me feels like getting into a big, slow s13 / s14 / s15 with more interior room. Which it is. I dont really understand why someone would want to buy a GTS-T as a sports/performance car when you can get a 200sx/silvia equivelant that will blow its doors off mod for mod, and be more of a blast to drive. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend to make your bigger car go faster than the smaller car. But thats just me, thats how I think. :(

So i've got an r32 GTR in my garage? Yeah I have a 16 year old car that cost me over 20 grand because the r32 is the most raw car out of the series.

Its funny how you compare the VN commodore interior to the r32, I actually compare the exterior looks of the 33 to that of a commodore. Particularly white ones. Maybe thats why guys stick the GTR body parts on them.. :D

That reminds me, Hows your GTR wing going mate?

R32

They look better. :P

i've owned both, but the R33 i used to have was stock, and my current R32 is no where near stock. so i cant really compare them because of that. but this car handles fkn awesome and feels a lot lighter than the R33 and i like that.

But R32's are older, and you have to be careful when buying one to make sure there arent any major problems and the previous owner really took care of the car.

r32 that's lowered + gtr kit = ultra sexeh

In pretty much every poll ive ever seen 32's are always rated the best, then 34's and 33's are always dead last. You will find some 33 drivers that converted to a 32 but very rarely can the opposite be said. I don't know who said the 32GTR was the slowest but thats bs, they are the quickest of all for a reason. Personally if i had the cash to buy a 33 i would buy a 32 and use the money for mods, eg rb25 engine swap. At the end of the day though if you like the 33's go for it, YOU will be the one driving it everyday so pick a car that puts a smile on your face evey time you look at it

ok look i own botha R32 GTS-T(1992) and a R33 GTS-T(1994)S1

and i have driven both for awhile now for over a year

generally i prefer the r33 roomier more modern and plus its quicker then the 32

the 32 feels like it lacks the torque from the 33's RB25DET

but the 32 does feel like it handles better then the 33 more of a nimbler car

mod for mod if your looking to mod your car the R33 will produce more power the the R32.

Correct me im im wrong but doenst the gts-t r33 do a 14.4 quarter mile

while a r32 gst-t does somtihing in the vacinity for 15.5 quater mile

but i drive both cars around im i feel that the R33 is a much quicker car.

It mainly comes down to preference and your budget.

R32 is generally a bit cheaper then the R33. So buy watever u want

    • No, you're wrong, and you've always been wrong about this. The Nismo has 2 sets of openings. One is a real 2-way, and the other is a 1-way. There is no 1.5-way possible with the ramps that they offer. A real 1.5-way does exist. That Cusco stuff I posted is a prime example. If the forward drive ramps are, say 55°, and the overrun ramps are, say, 30°, then you will get about half as much LSD effect on overrun than you do on drive. It is real, it realy works. OK, you're slightly right. The Nismo has 55° and 45° ramps on the 2-way, so it does offer less LSD effect on overrun. But, I think that just means that they've (probably) sensibly established that you do not want actually equal LSD effect on overrun. You just want "quite a lot, but not quite as much as the drive LSD effect".
    • Just wanted to unearth this and post my baby with the new front ❤️😝 Took her to my wedding rehearsal today. Next up is getting wide skirts (after wedding)
    • Yea, that is what I was getting at in my ramblings too. The nismo one actually is a 1.5 way and a 1 way. They don't do a *2* way because a true *2* way would have equal ramp angles. Or is that a true 1.5 way? Realistically I think a "1.5 way" does not actually exist. A diff can either lock in two directions or one. It also doesn't help that a LOT of people in Australia speak about 1.5 way diffs are referring to their 1 way diff.
    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
