I have one installed in the center console - the detectors are mounted on the front & rear bar (for alerting to cops coming up behind me) - it picks up lasers and radors. You wouldnt know it was there if you didnt know where to look. It has always gone off with plenty of warning and is set to not go off at doors etc.

I bought a radar detector for about 650, a beltronics. I turned off k and x band as if you have them turned on your radar detector will be useless. This is the best setup for a radar detector and I can tell you now it works 100% of the time.

I have never had a speeding fine in 2 years.

About the legality, the guy at the store told me they are legal. I stopped at a booze bus once and a cop said i should take it down as it’s illegal to use them in WA. I don’t know if I believe him and still use it daily.

About that theft thing, why would you leave it up? Put it in your glove box. That’s like leaving a mobile on the dash... silly

hmm they are legal yes

but just careful WHERE you put it, my mate got caught for obstructing view thingy, $100 for having his speedo near his rearview mirror. i guess they were a bit narky about it... pms'd cops they mustve been.

theft? simple... just dont enter a parking lot with one on, let alone take it off after u park... same with northbridge... no need for one on a sat'day night on james st either.

ive have noticed that there are so many cameras on the street now guys, before i use to see them once a month and now i seriously lost count of how many i spot out.

so im planning to invest in a radar detector, im looking into the Whistler DE-1793 SE

its $695 and rank upto the best of bells. only very few radar detectors pick up the new POP band, but im seriously considering to get one of these in the near future.

does any1 know any cheaper yet just as good radar detectors around?

and is any1 here interesting in gettig one of these themselves too, cuz we can get a group purchase together and make it cheaper for all of us. any seggestion?

cheers

Phuong

im decidin whether to purchase the bel rx65 or rocky mountain. I know the rocky mountain is developed usin military technology. Rocky mountain is also very competivitly priced, and according to their website, they are faster then the beltronics. Only thing stoppin me is the fact that beltronics has such a good reputation. Ive seen one bloke sellling the rx65 for 500. If we manage to get a couple of blokes together we could possibly get it between 450-480 dollars a piece. Anyone interested??? I'll find out today wether he'll budge on the price.

Cheers.

Paul

    • GTSboy, thank you again. i’ve been reading all the other SAU RB25 vacuum line threads and you have the utmost patience for people asking “where do my vacuum lines go”. it’s appreciated. i did also enlist a few other RB guys local to me.  i would like to run 5 to 4. turbo pressure side to wastegate actuator. i would like to run 3 to 1. power steering air valve line to intercooler outlet. (this is how it was previously). i was told 2 is the bleed port for the boost solenoid - which i’m not running - so should be capped.   anyone see any problems with that?
    • So yes. All of them. Something like 98% of all fuel in the USA has 10% ethanol: https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/ethanol-fuel-basics It's labelled as like, AKI, 87, 91, 93 with an E10 or E5 or E15 label on the pump. At a certain point, it's not just "E10" instead of 91. It is 91, 95, 98, and all of them have 10% Ethanol in them. You can also get E85 and E30 which is why you do see some people rolling around with E30 tunes in them.
    • Thanks for the response. This is an 04 EP3 Type R. JDM spec. Fairly certain they're just basic BC racing coils. I do plan to keep as the ride quality on stock I've been told is pretty meh given Sydney roads. If I were to go down that avenue, does NSW require them to be a certain spec (close to original) etc?
    • Should have asked what is the car?
    • I've had two super conflicting experiences with blue slips. My 30 year old E39 waltzed through with no issues but my brother in law was knocked back on 12 y/o 3 series due to wiper blades and some cracking in a control arm bush.  What kind of coil overs? Do you want to keep them after?  If it was me I'd get some dirt cheap shocks and springs from eBay or scumtree. Not ideal but will get you over the line and might even be less than $1k.
