Mate of mine dropped a R32 RB20DET in a Z31 with little dramas, so i'd be putting in a R33 RB25DET or if you have the funds RB26DETT.

erm their still turbocharged, i need an n/a engine, have you not heard about the ban on turbocharged cars for P platers? ;)

well if ppl say a rb20det can fit into a z31. then i highly doubt there will be much trouble putting a rb30 in (i'm sure someon on the 300zx forums has done it, and if not just measure it all up and that will give u a fair idea, u'll probally need custom engine mounts, but thats no big deal. better still while the rb30 N/A is in, save ur cash for a rb25 head and all the works to make a rb30Det for when ur off ur p's. beats any rb26dett!! :boobies2: :D

btw if u posted this up in the general tech section u'll prob get more replies....

Nissan 200ZR was Z31 chassis with RB20DET engine:

Most RB engines available have the sump bowl in the wrong place to drop into a Z31 chassis - the sump bowl is at the front in RB engines used in Skylines, but Z31 needs a rear bowl. Changing the sump is an option, but finding a rear bowl RB sump is not that easy.

Since you want an NA RB30, your best bet would be to get one from an MQ Patrol (I think that's right). These have a sump with the bowl at the rear, but its fairly deep so probably need some mods to fit. These are a carburetted engine (RB30S), but it would be a simple matter to bolt on the EFI gear from a skyline engine (R31). Bonnet clearance might be an issue as the RB30 is a fairly tall engine compared with an RB20 - fitting a twin cam head to an RB30 block actually lowers the overal height a small amount.

Yes you can fit an rb30 into a z31 things you will need are ( 200zr X-member, series 1 rx7 engine mounts and a modified front sump which will need to be made to clear the power steering lines and will need to get new power steering lines made due to power steering pump is on the other side of the motor will need to make radiator mounts due to the rb30 the original radiator won't fit also will need to run electric thermo fans too and also will need to make up a new radiator top line to have the filler neck high due to on the vg30et the filler neck is on the radiator and also on the rb30s it's on the radiator for the gearbox will need to make a gearbox mount and get a custom 1 piece tail shaft made too ) there is more like wiring but that's the easy part that's what I have done to make an rb30 fit into a z31

    • Reading through the engine service manual their advice is do a cylinder balance test. Unplug one injector at a time and see if the idle drops a consistent RPM. You can also do this using a Consult cable which is easier. They also call for unplugging the power transistor, then with the engine off and the fuel rail unhooked from the manifold verifying that you have good fuel flow (even injection, no dripping/leaks, etc) when you twist the CAS by hand. Also verify the spark by pulling the spark plugs and allowing the plugs to ground and turning the CAS by hand. I would also start doing the sensor checks and idle valve checks in service manual. Make sure the MAF tests reasonably, the intake air regulator is sane, etc. You may have to get new spark plugs.
    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
