Hey guys, well im waiting for my new muffler for my old school HZ GTS Monaro, the old was is completely rusted out on the inside, causing a massive choke in the system, not good for a car whatsoever. Anyways, after painstakingly taking it off, ive decided it should always be off, if only for the law. The thump the thing makes is almost frightening, for a lightly modified 5litre.

Anyways, i think ill grab a sound bite and post it up here. Just for those who appreciate other sorts of cars.

Mate I know what you mean.

I had a 351 with err.. fake .. twin pipes.. Basically they ended up at the end of the car but really a lot of the exhaust came out the side (side pipes basically) and that thing sounded AWESOME. At idle, on the pedal a little, on the pedal alot - it just sounded great.

I hope it gives you that little bit of reverb at the back of your throat/lungs as only a big v8 can :aroused:

When you get the sound bite if it doesn't sound like it's picking up the boomy v8 sound try moving away a little so less of the high range is picked up and more of the bass notes come through

haha, alot of cars do sound nice, each to their own, each engine has its own unique note, ie, ford and holden 5litres have different notes. :)

Anyways, i dont wanna piss off the neighours atm, and ive been flat out at work, but should get it recorded tomorrow :D

to tell you guys the truth, when i first drove the skyline, i was scared to rev it because i was used to the sound of a v8 and i felt as if the rb20det at high revs wasn't a very healthy sound. but now i'm used to it, and i like it, and have no trouble giving it some :)

It's an art, isn't it? I've never been able to get a decent recording of an exhaust note that didn't sound like it was underwater, or tinny.

bf is trading his xr6t in this weekend...for a GT..

as much as he loves the turbo he really wants to get back into a V8..

i think some people just love the V8 rumble. I'll turn my head for any car that's got a nice sound to it really...but the sound of an RB always stands out ;):D

get one stock vn group a ss and install a vortech supercharger and listen, trust me... puree horn, i had a few turbo mates come around saying oh the rb26 sounds awesome and v8s r no where near as good, until i started my old mans vn group a with the blower and they where drooling and wanting to take photos under the bonnet and shit haha, 2 min prior they didnt even look twice at it, but they sure noticed the rumble of the beast :whackit:

i reckon most v8s sound shit but injected and blown are bloody awesome ;)

still rate the rb26 very highly of course

cheers

Brad

the v8 has never done anything for me. although i like the sound of the current Ferrari's.

much prefer the sound of turbo or F1. love hearing the v10's at 18,000 + revs. just crazy.

don't mind the Porsche 911. Much angrier than what i expected from a boxer 3.6 or 3.8 litre

very un Aussie i know.

Cheers

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
