Driver clocked at 208kmh, say police

July 25, 2005 - 10:37AM

A man has been charged with reckless driving after allegedly driving almost 100kmh above the speed limit on a freeway south-west of Sydney.

Police said the 27-year-old from Bellevue Hill, in Sydney's east, was clocked driving his Nissan GTS coupe at 208kmh in a 110kph zone on the Hume Highway near Mittagong about 11.40pm (AEST) last night.

He was charged with driving a vehicle reckless or furiously and will appear in Moss Vale Local Court on August 15.

His licence had been immediately suspended.

all I can say is he must have had some serious intent if he really was in a non turbo skyline. it would take some pretty long road to wind a GTS up to a 'real' (ie not speedo indicated) 208kmh. the speedo would be reading about 230-250 at that speed (if not still 180kph speedo).

he will now be enjoying ye olde public transport, and the lifto-bludgo for many moons to come.

If its on the Hume near Mittagong, I can pretty much guess where he did it, too.

I'd assume he did it on the northbound side, since it runs downhill. At which point, if he started at 110km/hr or so before hitting this section......200km/hr would be easy to achieve.

poor block, i feel sorry for him, should be allowed to have a little fun every now and then...

LOL just kidding good luck to him, coz i got caught doing 30 ver the limit and im out for six months, wouldnt want to know how long he's out..

hahaha! yeah i read this on the way home from work 2day...on the train.... and it kinda pissed me off that he 'happened' to be driving a Nissan GTS... we're back in the spotlight for the wrong reasons because of an idiot... why couldn't he have been driving a BMW....:uhh:

What about a Bentley?.... No one seems to care what happens in uber-exotics

actually the last guy caught speeding in a bentley is in jail. or perhaps it was a bugatti? either way I believe that counts as 'uber-exotic'...

    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
