hey,

just wondering what conrods people reccommened for an RB26?

do i have to get a certain size to match the pin or are they usually the same size?

im using arias pistons with the supplied pins.

i understand the standard ones are good for around 500HP?

im looking to have around this figure so to give piece of mind i think i will upgrade now while its apart.

so what rods and where should i get some..

nengun have a set for around $1500 but there may be a cheaper alternative.

for 500HP there is no reason you cant retain the standard rods but have them nitroed, crack tested and prepped. Standard rods will handle the power without a problem though you should use ARP or Tomei rod bolts when you rebuild the engine.

I have hear nothing but good news about Argo rods...

If i was to build another rb30det it'd be with them....

Saying that, you would get the same sort of repsonses when asking for what pistons to use....it comes down to personal preference.

I like to ask the engine builder what he uses, then ask why :(

Have been running 450ish hp at the wheels on standard rods shot peened for almost 24 months now without a problem. I am using ARP rod bolts though which is where the weak spot is in the rods apparantly.

Keep clear of R.E.V rods. Friend of mine ordered a set thinking they were a bargain. They arrived pre-assembled, when removing the rod bolt it stripped itself and snapped. Really want something this brittle in your engine when you cant even remove the rod bolt to put it in the engine?

Unless you want to push massive amounts of power or raise the rev limit, standard rods should do you fine (using a decent quality bearing as well... I previously used NDC bearings (Nismo are supplied by NDC) ad they are a tri-layer metal style bearing. After 10,000km the top layer had started peeling and was on its way to spinning. The car has no knock what so ever, and have always used Motul 300V Chrono oil changed every 2500 - 3000kms. My preference for bearings would be King.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, as others mentioned get them shot peened to remove any surface weaknesses, and if you have the cash cryo treated to add some extra strength.

If your bank account is really flush - have a look at the titanium rods :(

hmm US$995 for each rod is a bit out there for me :(

i bought a set of crower conrods.. told they were pretty good but i got them foo 1595 so it was a good price.. dont know much about the quality but they look really well machined and compared to the stock 25det rods... lol.. no comparison

apparently they are very good rods and can handel 1000hp

King Engine bearings....thats what my engine builder used on the mains..

I've seen this posted before where King bearings are avail for the RB26, but I can't locate any... Would you by any chance be able to locate/ post the King part# PLEASE so I can have my machinest try his luck at getting me a set.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG is has not responded to my emails so far after purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.  
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.  
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
