heyz ppl

I got an EPA inspection defect notice in the city on Friday nite for Sports Air Filter (already changed it to stock airbox) and exhaust system (thank god they didnt notice I had no catalyctic converter)

No fines, I just gotta sort it out and bring car to stock form. Am I looking at any fines from EPA?

What should I do now?

I think you got off lucky. Because your car is missing just the stock parts and not noise and emissions, they just do a visual inspection.

No cat is a big one... I know it seems every rotor driver I know flaunts it but the results are not worth the risk.

T.

they took photos of everything but they did not write no cat converter, just "exhaust not standard" on the defect list.

I didn't know the car had no cat, I only found out when i had it checked by liverpool exhaust. Will get my importer/dealer to fix this up for me. Otheriwse he can face massive fines from EPA in thousands.

anyway of putting in a fake cat converter? maybe make one out tin can wrapped around the exhaust so that when the cops inspect, it looks like one but not really it....

Stupidest idea evarr. Sounds like nissansilvia.com talk.... They can use a broomstick to stick in. If it's hollow it won't hit anything so they know it's fake, then they WILL do you. Also any exhaust test will show it's not working!!

hahahaha...what cop is gonna be carrying a broomstick around?..a witch?

i mean the cops are hardly gonna want you to jack up your car just to poke their broomsticks at the cat converter. If you put in a fake one, they might take one look underneath the car and think "ok so he has one" and leave you alone. Just a thought thats all.

i didnt get inspected by cops. f**kers took me to an inspection place on the night i had to cruise with them around the city (they just wanted to look cool haha, tho it was funny cose i high beamed them a few times when they pulled over for me to wait and then they leave when i was ready and people were looking like WTF?... are we under covers lol)

mate got done for having a fake Cat converter - $12000 fine for intentionally doing it. They shined a laser thru it and caught him.

This thread gives me a headache (must be the lack of a cat converter).

Here's an amazing idea: how about just sticking a CAT on?

yeh i was about to say that too, its a massive fine for not having a cat, not worth it.... what does it say on the defect form in the part where it says "defect must be cleared by:" and "at a:" they would of ticked a box....

most of the time so long as u get a blue slip from a licenced mechanic the rta will clear the defect, as in the mechanic must be able to sign the form after checking the car over, so if u know someone u can clear it without even touching ur car :wink:wink:

dunnno any shifty mechanics... the ones i went to i said $100 tip for doing it but they said even if i gave $1000 they cant do it cose i need an EPA approval?!?! they didnt tick nothing instead crossed out all the other places and prick wrote Take to EPA inspection.

in defects he wrote:

- Sports Air Filter

- Exhust system not standard

- To be cheked by EPA

- Front parking lights not working

f**ken rta assholes (it wasnt the cops that defected it but actual rta inspector)

    • Impossible to remove the housing while turbo is installed on the manifold on the engine. So I have to do it anyways. I plugged it so there will not be any debris in there. Will vacuum aswell
    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
