Hey Jono, so how'd things turn out for ya, its a shame to see things not going to plan.. I reckon you should a least go and see Pratty, for that second opinion.... can't hurt can it? that and i'm good mates with a guy for the airport that flys a helicopter so avgas isn't that hard to come by if you wanted to try some for a tune... (although it's not exactly a cost effective solution)..

That or you could start from scratch with a LINK :( 229kw's stock turbo....

I don't want to push any buttons here cause i was just trying to offer any help (and a light stab), but wasn't 2rismo pulling beyond that kinda power on a stock turbo... (sure NOS helps but......)

I really cant see why 229 is such a stretch on a Link when i said stock turbo, i never said what i had done to the rest of the car...(nor did say it was a safe power figure and may not live very long, however driven sedately enough anything will last) but i'm sure if went and spoke to Grant, jono he would be happy to back that up....

Please tell us how a link ECU can strech the power well past what the turbo pyshically can make, and has been proven to make in how many 100's of cars... maye even 1000's of cars?

If its running AFR's of death to achieve "magical numbers", then thats hardly the ECU, thats a muppet tuner/owner. A "Link" is not magically going to see an improvement at all.

Its not a better ECU, its worse.

230rwkw.. on a stock turbo..hmm.. To get that you're looking at 15psi plus and its a known fact that the stcok turbo will turn its turbine wheel to dust at this type of psi, and its doing as much as a hairdryer would do anyway at this level of boost.

Cams - I think you could get 230rwkw with cams, link and stock turbo.. I don't think the turbo would last long?..

Don't forget, that if this person knows me and lives in mackay, he's be using pump grade 95 ron fuel, and its shit house quality.

I've made 220rwkw at 14psi but my torque figure has gone up quite a lot. Pulls like a train now, Should be able to get 12's with traction. I doubt I'll get traction though.

Waiting for garrets nice little .63 ex internal gate housing, I'll grab that and fit it, and get some water meth to fix my fuelling problem.

Also, I am getting a second opinion or tuner to fix the mess. I still think its fuel though.

boost does not make more power period. on a stock turbo over 12psi is just more and more and more and more heat, no more power. youll throw the compressor out of its efficiency zone and throw in stacks more heat. the dyno figures can be "mislead" by various tricks with air temp sensor. i can make my car make 230rwkw also by sticking the air temp sensor in my hand with a cigarette lighter held to it, all of a sudden the air intake is 60deg and ambient is 20deg (lets pretend) standard shootout mode, throw in correction and hey presto 230rwkw.

elaborate as much to say the stock turbo is flowing 2/10's of F*CK ALL above 12/13psi.

you can crank it upto 18psi if you wanted too, doesnt mean its going to make anymore power.

update:

Managed to get a standard RB25 exhaust housing and dropped it into the turbo dude in mackay here. On Sunday, I am going to remove my GT30 and drop it into him on monday and he is going to grind up the RB25 housing to fit. I told him to grind it as little as possible to fit in the turbine. He said he needs to leave 100thou clearance for heat expansion.

So, yeah, the weekend after australia day, saturday morning first thing, I'll be re-fitting the turbo...

Hope it works out.........

Also, I am getting him to measure up the VG30 housing against the grinded RB25 to see if the VG30 has been overground.

Will be interesting to see.

While the turbo is off, I am going to fit the "7" heat range plugs (cooler plugs) to see if it stops a little bit of pinging. Maybe I'll get 3 or 4 degrees advance into it from that.

We'll see.

I was told the colder plugs will only affect starting, and when they are cold, I might have to crank it over one extra revolution before it fires.

Anyone got any extra input?

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
