Just got it off the jack stands :) Im thinking I will get it out of the garage for some better pics over the weekend.

I have around 100mm clearance at the front bar so its just legal hight wise.

Im thinking of buying some universal bolt on flares rather than going down the GTR or wide body route but ill wait and see.

picture time! (excuse the messy garage ahaha)

it's interesting, I'll wait till I see it in the flesh to pass my final judgement. I reckon it'll have some bozoku style bossness about it, which I don't mind :)

While we're on the topic of wheels I got me some Rays SSR2s 18x9.5 +38, they were gold but after today they're matt black :D

I've got some 245\40\18 Dunlop DZ03G M compunds for them to match the 265\35\18 I've got for the rears :D

What are you doing with your d2r's Pete?

Never really posted any updates in here about our car so thought now might be a good time as there is a fair bit happening. First a bit of background info…

My brother Tom and myself purchased the car, a 1993 R32 GTST, in September 2011 from Victoria, it had an RB25DET which wasn’t engineered so we spent a fair bit of time organising that once we got it back, it was on the road on 11/11/2011 (easy date to remember haha), this is how it looked…

We didn’t really do anything worth mentioning, just tidied a few things up, got some new wheels and went to a few track days at Baskerville.

Then we thought we’d enter the drift practice day in May which didn’t end well with the car being written off, I’m sure most of you have seen pictures/videos and I don’t really want to look at them again so won’t post any of that haha.

Luckily it appears to be only structural damage with only minor damage to engine, surprisingly even front end components such as brakes/hubs were not damaged, the chassis seemed to absorb all the impact.

So we started the search for a shell, nearly bought an S13 which would have been a cool project but ended up getting hold of another R32 in June off DanielH (previously owned by Toffy). Now that we’ve started transferring things across I’m kind of glad we went with another R32 as it makes things soo much easier.

IMAG0196.jpg

The shell was not quite rolling with no interior but it didn’t matter as we could transfer a lot over from our wreck. During my mid-semester break from Uni we got a bit done…we put in our subframe and front end so it’s now properly rolling (don’t worry everything was checked thoroughly for damage before being bolted up!).

Tom also pulled the RB25 out of the wreck and it has been pulled down to do a few oil control mods (external oil drain, restrictors, baffled sump, oil pump drive collar), head has been decked and replaced valve stem seals, crankshaft seals etc. and the oil pump drive collar is currently getting done. Also discovered big end bearings and clutch are pretty close to needing replacement so figured now is a good opportunity, and rear housing is cracked on turbo (thanks to Tobbie for sorting us out with that and few other bits and pieces).

We’re pretty keen to get it done and get back out on the track again and just enjoy it, I imagine we’ll be taking it pretty easy to start with after all the effort we’re putting in. I guess the good thing about paying someone else to do the work is it doesn’t hurt as much when things go wrong (if money isn’t an issue) but unfortunately that isn’t an option for us haha. I might try and post a few updates as things get done if I have time.

So i got a pair of flares today thanks Damo (DJRIFT) so decided to do a quick mock up

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
