As for the other thread about bagging or laughing at V8's - I respect a hotted up ford or commo - its good to see people taking interest in their cars. My comment on v8's was more to say - that "some" people think V8's are the ONLY high performance cars. I too have been humbled by a HSV :-(

I dont think i said u didnt know anything about parts but if u say that u will come across that way to the salesman.....anyway its all good..

As for BOV.. why do u want one and what do u want it to do?

Chriss Mills, is another good place to go for good prices, its a V8 specialist too, but a phone call can secure what your after.

Killer T had his engine rebuilt by them, thousands cheaper than any other 'import' specialist mentioned for the same work, and I dare say the quality of the machine work is better.

The 'trev' shops, if you can put up with yobbo's, have very good pricing deals with the distributors and manufacturers.

Perth has a good import shop scene and you won't go to wrong with any of them as most work together.

Some of the V8 shops are changing over like Chris Mills as his

son Rhys is interested in imports, as are Regional Motor Sport.

Automotive tuning center do hard core stuff not trim type stuff

I do Performance parts not detail parts mostly EFI. C RED do quality go fast bits as do speedworks.Per4manz is the top Forced air guy.

Wheel spin ,X speed, and Works do the bits you want Plus more. All A grade shops.

In fact.... pretty much anyone who's still trading must be doing more decent work than crap... Perths a small market, and bad news travels pretty quickly... Blow up a few motors and you get a bad rep...(deserved or not, cos not all failures are tuning failures, and not all mechanical failures the fault of the last workshop involved, but thats who cops the blame)

One thing you'll find in most v8 shops as a learning point for others is trouble shooting, the amount of wierd issues the average trev repair shop would have sorted over its time and most of them have been around for a bloody long time could potentially fix that ailing bug you just can't sort out, and it will only take a few minutes of explaining the problem to them and they will generally be able to point you in the right direction, modern day car or not..

Damn straight! I think PSI Dynoi is a pretty good benchmark industry standard... I'm not going into the whole dyno argument again but many workshops & show cars still use PSI for dyno ...

Use West Racing motor development myself. Get along pretty well with Tim unlike previous performance shops that shall remain nameless that ive had a couple bad experiences with. He does a good job and the most fussiest person i know takes his skyline to him. Anyway i think its just a matter of shopping around finding someone who has the same "vision" as you do and listens to what you want.

Might be just me but i wouldnt recommend C-red the job they did on my car was lets just say rushed - they did clean it tho haha

I prefer the Dynapack setup APA uses... runs 4wd cars as well as 2wd... and has none of the traction issues roller dyno's do, because the dyno bolts straight to the hubs... much safer too... unlike some places that don't even bother to tie down cars... (i don't think the place i'm thinking of here has ever been mentioned on this forum, so we'll leave it that way :-)

FIL, That hub dyno sounds good, that means no issues with loss of traction from the tyres, but it is more difficult for racing cars cause the hubs won't fit on some cars I heard.

If a dyno place didn't tie that car down then I would leave immediately.

Hell no , as long as it's not mine , I would stay.

It's pretty funny when it hops off the rollers at the top end of third and smokes out the door.

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
