Yeh dude - like rhianne said younger drivers in high powered cars can be a bit scary - I have had my license for a couple of years now and I still manage to scare the shit outta myself every now and then - these words aren't harsh - get a bunky and flog the shit outta that - you will learn much more in it and it helps if you aren't scared of it. And yeh - Karts? A lot different to a car - A LOT..

but you can still kill yourself in a bunky right??ild rather do high speed in my line then some datto with 2 wheel nuts on each wheel, i think no matter what you are in if ya be a dckihead wont stop the powerpoll commin through ya door.. but if ya do get a skyline or anything turbo, just be real carefull in the wet.. i remeber when i 1st drove a turbo in the wet and i was just driving normal but like i would in the dry, and i was facing backwards pritty quick.. so be carefull man..

but i would look into insurance also 1st can't see it being cheap.. might have to get a 2nd job at night whoreing your backside out just to get it covered

mmm yer having a car valued over 22k plus 3k for insurance(coz im 18) and fuel and services also spending big $$$ on mods for turbo, PFC, injectors, cams, etc... is alot for someone my age. But hey i love my car and its fun...

just think though can u handle it :

- loan repayments about 2 years paying $80+ a week ( would want to pay as much off as possible due to paying more for interest rates, also dont go for 5 years u end up paying double for interest)

- insurance about $2500-$3000

- Rego & Stamp duty

- services

- petrol

- living costs/going out costs

im 28 and have had a nissan turbo in various forms for the last 5 years

i think only now am I actually starting to become capable enough to properly and fully handle the car

and dont insure in your parents name , more and more insurance companies are refusing to pay . my nephew in law just totalled his v8 ute , insured in his mums name , no pay out . also totalled the other car 40k owed

could have been alot worse , there was a mum and 2 kids in the other car but everyone was OK . would you like to live with those deaths your head for the next 60 years ?

Skidpan, take your car there and flog the shit out of it, will also give you experience in handling a car when things go wrong etc, or even performance driving classes, street for sensible driving, track for flogging the shit out of it. It's Best to insure in your dad's name and you only drive it a little, i dont think an insurance company would go near you whilst on your L's

I think Sammie has a pretty good attitude. He's been driving for years now, and it doesn't matter whether it's a go kart or what, it's all experience even if it is fairly basic. Some experience is better than no experience. He's planning on doing courses so he learns how his car handles and how to drive it properly etc...

The thought of a youngen with a turbo scares the hell out of me. Not just for them, but because MOST of them are a menace on the road. They just don't have the experience to control a car like that. P-platers in general scare me, because most of them can't drive their way out of a wet paper bag.

Something to consider for the guy that wanted to buy an old R32 - There is ALOT of maintenance up front & early on buying a car that age. Trust me. I bought a 1989 Skyline GTR, and it has chewed up pretty much all of my spare money. They are old. All the rubber bits have worn out and need to be replaced. It has no doubt had the balls thrashed off it and not been looked after....Prepare to spend a good year just fixing the crap that no one else could be bothered fixing, before you start modding it and turning it into a showcar.

Dont worry dude we all give our skylines abit of shit now and then but what makes us different to the hoons is that we know our limits and our car limits, and althou we may give it a quick hit to 0 to 60km, we leave the 0 to 150km/hr to the drag strip :P

Mc is good, but if u wanna have more fun, come join the drifters every month at Warannon Raceway, its much more fun to drift then grip :D

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
