Just wondering what sort of speeds a standard r32 GTR with the standard gearbox ratio's will let you get up to. Thats of course if you get rid of the fuel cut. I was thinking 260 or 270. Is that close to the mark when hitting redline in 5th??

I have the 320 dash and just wouldn't mind knowing.

Cheers fellas

I've had my gtr to 270 on my speedo, probably not very accurate tho.. but it was no where near the redline in 5th. was still pulling but ran out of track.

top of 3rd is around 180, top of 4th is around 240 ... will have to get hte gps out next time i have passenger lap to see how true it is

according to reference.com the top speed is 257 km/h

there you go theres a official number

and im guessing reference.com is a trustworthy source....??

and from when i was doing a top speed run in my GTR from speed and revs i was doing i believe thats right on the money of the gearing (for a R32 dont know if others have different gearing)

Gearing for an R32 GT-R is as follows (all in km/h per 1000rpm)

1st 8.9

2nd 14.8

3rd 21.9

4th 28.5

5th 40

There is an old Wheels magazine around with a test which produced a terminal velocity for a stock GT-R at around 250km/h (from memory).

But don't try it at home, kids.

FTR: I have just watched an R32 GTR torrent file, I think its an old BMI Video from 1989, they have incar footage of standard R32 GTR around the Nurburgring, speedo was hitting 240kmh.

Then later tested over the QTR = 13.32

Then on a Banked High speed circuit = 247kmh

My Speed limiter cuts in at 181kmh as I found out at the drags :P which is basically top of 3rd in a GTR.

Can anyone remember which wire it is on the ECU you cut to disable the speed limiter?

Or point me in the direction of a thread that does......

r33 its gts-t its 280

280km/h in a GTS-T? For a stocker? I seriously doubt that! :P

(EDIT: Or do you mean it is geared for 280km/h? In that case it is more beleivable and you are forgiven with my apologies!)

On the serious side, I've heard around 250km/h mark is about right for the R32 GTR - the car may be geared for more (maybe 260-280km/h), but I don't think the stock car can pull redline in fifth.

define STOCK R32 GTR

mines got 3" turbo back straight thru exhaust, apexi pods, boost restrictor removed

and it was still pullin strong at 6k in fifth

i would have no doubt i could hit the fifth gear redline

but mine may not be considered STOCK

good stuff - seems to work out spot on with my R32 GTR which from the speedo roughly gives 120kph in 2nd, 180 in 3rd, shifting at 8000rpm. Looks like its actually 118.4 and 175.2. Close enough for me. I think I hit about 220kph going into the Caltex Chase at Bathurst on the run where I got a tow behind a sport sedan down the straight and didn't lift through the kink - but its hard to get more than a quick glance at the speedo in those circumstances! Plus its a 300kph speedo, so its hard to be too accurate with the lines being quite close together at the best of times, let alone at over 200 going into the Chase right up the arse of a sport sedan...

I've also heard the top speed for a standard R32 is 250kph - I think I read that in a Julian Edgar Zoom article when he first got that Aus-delivered GTR he crashed  Not sure what his source was. As you can see from djr81's specs above, 5th is a real overdrive, so it wouldn't surprise me that it isn't able to put on too much speed in 5th.

Sorry to hijack but u say u have removed the boost restrictor. what exactly is this and is it easy to do? can it be done on an R33 GTR

You dont have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near the redline with those mods . The 32 + 33 GTR is geared to so about 320 if you could get to the cutout but unless you have a very powerfull engine you wont go anywhere near .

A stock 32 will do about 240kmh a stock 33 a little more and a 34 a bit more still

If you could get to the cut out on the 34 you will be doing over 340kmh in 6th , but for a stock car about 255-260 is all you will do .

sorry mate i didnt remove restrictor myself so i cant help you with that, from what i understand its not that hard also i think R33 is electronically boost controlled so its a little different (but not sure i own a 32 so i know the 32, not 33 sorry)

cant really say i agree with that, but i will try another run when i get my car back (fixing idle problem), rather than me arguing yes and you arguing no i will prove (or disprove) what really happens

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
