i am looking to blow my 71 capri, but im unsure of turbo size.

the engine is a 3lt v6 i want to run a twin setup.

i would like to get full boost at least 2000rpm as my redline is 5750rpm.

my goal is to run a max of 8 psi but closer to 4-6 psi for everyday.

thanks mr 32

what kind of power are you after and what's your budget?

For twins on an engine of that size with that sort of response you are really looking for something pretty small.

A pair of turbos of a Z32 300zx maybe could do it though you may find the response will be significanly worse on your engine than the VG30 due to lower efficiency. Due to your low rev limit they may be a bit big to be honest.

You could even go a pair of T2's off an old ET pulsar. It was 1.5 with 2 valves/cylinder. They are pretty old though so would require rebuilding. There may be a new version of it for sale by garrett.

I wired a v6 magna twin setup and the owner (a chick, was really suprised, but anyway) They decided to use a pair of pulsar turbos...

It was pretty good. However i ran out of puff before redline and it was a 3 litre magna 94 model or so. The last of the old shape.

In her case a pair of VG30's would have been ideal i reckon. In your case this setup would be ok. Pulsar turbos....

You would have to go smaller again to get boost at 2000rpm.

Maby a pair of crapichino turbos would suit your application. Have fun with the exhaust manifolds... There is where most of your money will go...

What sort of Pulsar? Id be thinking stay away from scary early - mid 80s turbos. Crappy design, crappy bearing setup, crappy cooling, and that was when they were new. If they are off the GTiR or somehting, excellent, but i would consider some cheap R33 GTR turbos that have been binned for aftermarket about perfect for what you describe

i think the capuccino turbos will be two small as they run off a 660cc engine. the gtr turbos or rb20's might be the go what is the chance of failure at my boost levels?

for 2000-3000 you will get nothing. Once you get the custom exhaust and intake manifolds, oil and water lines made etc, it will be 2-3000.

Keep in mind that if you want "full" boost by 2000 rpm, the turbos will have to be very small. It also depends on what you define as "full boost". e.g. if you say 2 psi is full boost, sure, you might even be able to get a 3040 to be on "full boost" by 2000 rpm.

Keep in mind that the capri 3L motors are shit. To further that, if you run twins, you'll only have 1.5L 3 cyl pushing each turbo. Keep this in mind. an rb20 has a tiny turbo. yet it won't even hit 10psi by 2000rpm. That is on a 6 cyl 2L.

If you were to use 2 of those turbos, you'd probably expect 10psi by 4000+ rpm.

keep in mind that it's not just the cost of turbos, as mentioned aboe, there are manifolds. piping, intercooler. ecu. injectors. fuel pump. fuel pressure regulator.

the extra power will probably kill the stock gear box and diff. so budget for that.

The budget is not 2-3000 for a twin turbo setup. Think more along the lines of $15000.

I know you didn't ask for opinions, so I won't tell you that it's not worth it.

like i stated early my budget of 2000 3000 is just for the turbos alone. the exhuast is already a dual 3inch. the manifolds i will make myself in the workshop along with dump pipes. the gearbox is in the process at the moment which will be an adapted toploader with a ford nine inch. the engine is due for a rebuild so it will be done specially for this application. and the intercooler is a pwr air to water unit. i will also do the fual and ignition systems.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
