  1. From his posts it seemed like the last one failed when it had only had light use - if it had already had some hard track time then it'd not be too surprising, as you say... the plastic caged ones aren't too flash but the GTX ones have the steel bearing cages I believe, which make them a lot better suited for that kind of shenanigans. I love it that the Kandos are more reliable, we have turbo builders in NZ trying to convince us all that they are grenades.
  2. 6262 probably the most sensible alternative - though I'd look hard into finding the cause of your failures, it is really unlikely that it is a Garrett specific issue... LOTS of people here and everywhere are using Garrett turbos or Garrett units based on Garrett cartridges, old and new with no way near the issues you are having - your car won't be taking specific objection to the turbo being Garrett, while it's hard to be sure I'd be a bit concerned we'll see a post about a Precision or something else failing in the near future if you put a new turbo on without changing anything.
  3. That is really stout man, have you hit the strip with it on that power level?
  4. Crikey. I best go check your thread.
  5. As discussed earlier - sucks to hear you were so screwed around by the guy who was meant to be supplying it, it would have loved to have seen how the HTA3582 would have gone on the car.... would have been a weapon! While it's a bit of a compromise, the SS2 is good value for money and locally supported and still not a shabby performer! Update the HG thread when it's done
  6. GTX wheels have quietness as one of their design targets - they are intended for industrial etc use, one of the reasons why some of the more high performance targetting (ie, EFR, HTA) potentially will have the edge in other ways over them, as response/wide & tall compressor maps etc are the intentions.
  7. That's a proper anti-surge GT3076R core- the turbine housing will not be a GT30 one...
  8. Interesting, so you don't have the standard issue GT3076R - what is the spool etc like?
  9. That's the limit on JEM's dyno, but things would probably be different on the Dynapack - still reckon you should take yours to a hubber sometime, or a dragstrip and get some ridiculous mph That'd put things into perspective!
  10. Was discussing Syvecs/Life Racing stuff with someone recently when I was looking into the capabilities of M1 Build - couldn't find a clear indication of whether it had the ability to build your "own" plug-ins like you can with the MoTEC? It's a really fricken cool idea to add to such a well developed base product, if you have the money to throw around.
  11. Siigh. I have dirty dreams about making lots of money from being awesome and then building RBs with Frankenstein heads shamelessly stealing design cues from Honda's K-series heads and designing a cunning cam swinging/valve lifting logic setup using MoTEC M1 Build (and a M150). Oh, messy pants.
  12. No doubt - but in the time being, for the general populace I think my suggestion to not bother trying to download the software from that site is sound.... at this stage it is a complete waste of time. They would be better off not making it seem like you can download it and check it out as a mature product, IMHO, it came across quite amateur. Going by your results etc, they are a good product - however. Would have been good to have managed more time to chat with Yavuz etc while I was over there. Next time
  13. Just downloaded the M1 Software, needed to be run as administrator and then appeared to be locked down to the point where you actually couldn't tell at all whether it was worth even thinking about.... so I guess they aren't really trying to sell it. I have removed it from my machine, because as is it's a bit unnerving needing to allow software Admin rights - but when it turns out that it also may as well just be a bunch of dialog boxes with rajab-knows-what happening in the back end, the paranoid side of me makes it feel like a trojan. Regardless, I recommend people not download the software from the site - if nothing else, because it's an utter waste of time... at least until someone who knows more can put me right? In the mean time, I have Link, MoTeC M1 and other very capable ECU software on my computer which I was able to download and run for free with no issue at all
  14. People here don't seem to realise how to appreciate a good knob jockey!
  15. Totally agree, too I hadn't heard of the Blackbox until Paul showed up with the white beast when I was over for WTAC, and then much interesting conversation ensued... my curiosity is definitely piqued, seems like a good unit by all accounts. I'll have to download it and have a closer look.
  16. I don't think he was saying it's rubbish, so much as saying the apparent driveability issues with the Link may not have been a Link specific issue. Jury is currently out with me on the whole Link versus xxx ECU driveability, I have driven a car running a Black Box and it was definitely really good - though I also in honesty am not sure that I could tell anything about it off hand that a Link wouldn't be able to do, I am most definitely not saying that I *know* the Link would be able to match it - but for the sake of discussion, I am taking this thread as input into Unigroup's ability and the fact that Blackbox is a very good ECU... but as much as the guy you guys are calling an idiot for telling him OP shouldn't have changed, I feel it is also folly to indicate it means everyone else SHOULD change. Driveability is a really interesting thing to try and gauge, I have got into cars which have already been tuned using Links/PowerFCs and the owner have been perfectly happy with the existing driveability - I was retuning to suit new changes etc, and the owners have told me afterwards that the cars have ended up way more driveable than they were before hand. As a tuner it's always pretty nice to hear that, whether or not it is true or if it is partly a placebo as the car has tended to end up going better (whole reason I am tuning it is to unlock new potential due to some mod or another)... who knows. I guess what it means is that maybe a car can seem perfectly driveable and its inconceivable that it could improve, but who knows if another tuner or another ECU could improve it from that point - and if it does, how much is just placebo or from something else which has changed? Its a pretty hard topic to debate about, because you can't exactly measure this kind of thing - so I guess all this thread really says is that the Black box is a good ECU and Unigroup do a good job of tuning it.... I reckon bagging any alternative choices is not at all constructive, as it can't exactly be proven one way or another.
  17. Awesome Be very interesting to overlay the old RB25 + T62 with the RB30 + GT3586R - it should be a bit of a mindblowing comparison.... bearing in mind they are both 62mm turbos!
  18. GTScotT is loving that thought...
  19. What are we talking about?
  20. Haha well I did it to you, you ended up giving in, and how much do you regret it now that you did?
  21. I think porting the internal gate Kando turbos is well worth it, it's not that hard at the time and much less of a PITA of the potential situation of discovering you have boost creep, and need to pull the turbo off again.
  22. Wow man, it is going to be all around monster compared to your old setup. Should have got a Super94 for it, probably drive similar (definitely not worse) and gives you the potential for 600kw lol Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  23. It's lighter than stock, I think around 1200kg. I'd love to know what the turbo could do "all in" but it's not really an option with the current injectors and MAP sensor, and to be fair I'd say the head gasket/head studs would probably be worth upgrading before doing something like that too. Still not too bad for a basic setup that has that wide a delivery, I reckon. This is the dyno plot for ~16-17psi, if you hadn't seen it:
  24. I have quite a few people I have a lot respect for the opinions of who rave about Yavuz, so this thread doesn't surprise me Very nice - good results, and good show giving credit... often feels like there are too many threads bitching about tuners and products so it's a refreshing post to read
