isnt there cameras on the eastern now? I remember back in the good 'ol days (like 2002).. when 130 was a common speed.. When the hume fwy wasn't complete.. gunning it from cooper st onto the freeway was fun.. but now you have to watch out for trucks.. not alot of time to merge/judge their speed I think any freeway entrance is fun.. esp onto the ring rd.. about the only place you can put your foot down without getting a speeding fine...

Bugger, if only I'd read this a month ago.. had to organise transport from QLD urgently last week, got it sorted, got it sent in a cheap backload and paid for insurance but didn't look into the finer details, thought it covered everything. A couple of things are damaged and I think this might be the case for us as the truck didn't collide etc, looks like the damage might not be covered... they just didn't take much care unfortunately. See what happens I guess Also I thought it would only be on the truck for 3 days.. but they took the items out, put them on a train and then back on another truck in melb.. they used to just drive down.

yeah thats a given, you have to become 'friends' with them and be a regular customer for them to start treating you like a normal person that pays normal $$... or flinging words around helps... just ranting on about the car makes them think twice when they quote you. Even "aftermarket" & "stock" is usually a good start.. I know that it must be a simple defining difference between car person and pleb, because my non car friends look at me blankly when I mention 'stock turbo' etc. lol. I think all chicks should be treated like they know whats under the bonnet until they say "oh hee hee hee you lost me at coolant..." One of these magazines should do an article on discrimination against women in the auto industry.. I'm so sick of it.. I get treated a little rudely at times and like I'm an idiot until I prove I know what I'm talking about.. by mechanics who don't have a clue about imports and pleb sales guys particularly... and goddamn I hate it when someone tells me I'm after something completely different or gives me the wrong info and there's just no possibility that they could be wrong as opposed to the stupid 'wouldnt have a clue' chick in front of them... until they ask a workmate and he confirms I'm right.. yeh I had literally just left Nissan 10mins earlier when the car started overheating :~( So anyway I already have a water pump, belt, bearings etc because I was about to do a 100k service on it. I also have to get the injectors done for the 2nd time this year due to the heat, bah. Anyway we were thinking since half the engine bay is empty it might be a good time to recondition the engine.. but I'm not sure yet... guess it depends on price at this point... even doing it at home doesn't look like it will be much cheaper but fairly time consuming... anyway I think someone's just looking for an excuse to buy more tools!! Guess I'll see if the head's warped and go from there. 2nd hand CA heads are pretty cheap I'm told. Should just get rid of the bloody thing and drive the gazelle again! Thanks again

My TMU friend said the first thing he would pull me over for is the rear plates.. but not because they're bent.. because they are sitting on a slight angle and look like they were shoved on in a hurry (which they were!).. makes it look like stolen plates/car. Anyway I got an 'obscured/defaced/illegible' type number plate fine maybe 3-4 years ago.. not from bent plates or anything tho.. anyway it was about $105 from memory and no demerit points, wasn't a huge deal.

Its ok, if sarah has no access to a suitable car for pics, I vote she has to wear a mini skirt, boob tube/bra or similiar and hang off/sit on our cars in all the photos .. hehe

You could stop in that park just outside geelong (on way to drysdale) or go down to portarlington and get some fish n chips type thing. Then cruise around the peninsular from portarlington past St leonards etc. St Leonards - Drysdale direct used to be a really shit road, full of potholes.. got 2 flats in a week once!! Dont know if it's better now though. From memory it's about 30mins from geelong to portarlington or st leonards.

Hrrm quick question.. what do you guys think is a ballpark figure for getting the engine recon'd..?

yeh we pulled half the 180 out on sat night (like everything except the head!), FUN and were too exhausted on Sunday to make this one Hopefully next time!

thanks guys for the replies, though I was hoping for better news! Although I hadn't responded til now, I have been reading them. Everything's off now except for the head itself.. so much for doing anything else this weekend!! We did most of it on Saturday in only a few hours though, so that was alright. Let it never be said that girls don't work on their cars, yet again my nails are all broken. Did a cold compression test yesterday before dismantling it, was pretty even. hey Al busy this week/next weekend? Might need a bit more man muscle over here to help with the head, I can barely pull off the hoses

OK.. the other night my car was overheating.. pulled over (in city, in peak hour WOO) and popped the bonnet and car started steaming from.. well looked like it was coming from the engine. So now I have coolant all pooled around my injectors (just got the seals changed 2 months ago and now they've perished hooray) and having alot of trouble finding where it came from. There's dried coolant basically between my plenum and engine.. on top of the left rocker cover a bit.... Turn the car on & there was a leak, coming from possibly the water pump? My theory is that if it came from the water pump perhaps the fan blew it slightly upwards towards the injectors and then steam etc etc. There is a fair bit pooled around the injectors though. Also now after trying to find the leak I've noticed that the radiator is frothing quite alot, looks like frothed milk. Is that a sign of a blown head gasket or possibly to do with the leak (maybe from somewhere else)? Would a blown head gasket spray coolant everywhere? I don't know, what do you guys think. We were intending to do the 100k service this weekend anyway but the head gasket wasn't on the menu. Don't really want to pull the car apart though and then not be able to find the leak. The general public can also do it online once they register and get approved by the EPA and you don't need a witness to make a report. You do need alot of details about the car, location, who was driving and what kind of litter (eg cig butt or rubbish etc). They have 4 weeks to submit reports and it's considered a stat dec so they have to be willing to testify in court. You know shopping centre carparks are also considered public roads so if you drop something outside the car you can get a fine too. Cigarette butts are about $200 from memory. Also trucks can be reported if something falls off the back of the truck (eg a nice bit of timber at 100k/hr, its happened to me before) or have an unsecured load etc. Anyway I know all this caus some prick threw a can or something at my car at 100k/hr and it barely missed going in the window and hitting my passenger (f'ing prick)
