sweet dude congrats make sure to post up you dyno details also a rough list of what you did to get where you are and list of mods so people can see whta can be achieved!!!!

i know its not what you are after but i have to correct earlier info that might mislead!!! the pull type r33 gtr boxes are the weakest in the gtr rb series by a long shot as nissan tried to correct problems that where in the r32 boxes but overcompensated and made themselves a whole set of new problems, the series 3 box is better but still no where near as good as the six speeds in japan are holding up to 10 second gtrs and they are getting reliabilty!!!

Reliable HP limit for GTS-T boxes
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to JustenGT4's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
there are inherent design problems within the gtr box and from what i have seen from two apart boxes on a bench one a gtr and another a gtst they are a little different!!! The problem with 3rd gear in a gtr box is that nissan set the countergear on third gear 3mm too far foward so if a gear change is rushed ie. drag racing, and throw in big revs they dont ingage all the way down the spigett or cog and thus when you are loading up the gear with full power they tend to shear the teeth right off the end of the gear!!!! Its never a problem if the gear is carefull and fully engaged but this often doesnt happen in a motorsport situation or with sloppy gearchanging or flat changes!!! It doesnt help that 3rd gear is also in the middle of the stack either!!!! -

try using a little thread tape the thread may have stretched and its leaking past the thread other than that it would be a crack or leak of that effect!!! -

hahaha i love when car related issues come up in the news it is so funny that we live in a country that busting a p plater doin a burnout is a higher priority that catching house theives or druggies.... AND DO YOU KNOW WHY?????? The little dirty R word!!! REVENUE More restrictions on something that is easily policed never goes near a court, has minimal paperwork and no wrong conviction aspects will always prove popular for governemts and police chiefs, theres no risk all money!!!... It amazes me that more people don't realise this... why do you think cops are always cracking down on "Illegal Street racing".. Just last week in town 20 police marched on a local car hang out saying everyone leave or you will be arrested... HA me and my mate stayed the cops came up said "move on"... we said "car wont start plus if you want arrest me i dont care!!!" Oh loitering as an offence!!! Cop said he couldnt be bothered "stop being a smart arse i wouldnt want to fill out the papre work just Fark off!!!!" This is just my point cars are a priority as its easy money it has nothing to do with fatilities, more teens die from suicide each year and from OD then car crashes dont let the properganda fool you but can they make any money out of suicide prevention, no, its damn sad but its not as attractive as cracking down on revenue raising excersises like fining people!! -
are the sau stickers different from state to state cause i make the ones for shell which i assume are for nsw and they are nothing like the ones on sign fx website???!!!
-
i do stuff you shouldnt do 24/7 in a car and i get busted ah- well i cant do what i do now when i have kids a morgage or am way old so do it now... if you just cop it sweet sometimes the cops have a laugh with you (but you still get the fine-damn it)

Running in a engine
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to R32 GTSTT's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
when you start it up with those bigger injectors id say it will hardly run and will be rich as a pig!!! IF it is tuned for 370cc injectors and running the power you say the injectors will be pulsing for a very long time to try and get the fuel through, when you put the bigger ones in the will flow twice as much but still be open for the same time equaling twice as much fuel!!!! Run them in hard to go hard i say my run in will be on the dyno to ramp ups then a full power run on low boost is my run in process!!! -

polishing intake manifold on rb26
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to 7heavn's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
it is near impossible to get the plenum off while the motor is in the car but it can be done.... if your paying a mechanic this will equal a big dollar excercise due to the hours it takes... most of the plenums you see would actually be chromed as it will almost work out easier to chome as the alloy idnt a very highly polishable grade!! but again it can be done!!! I can garantee most plenums that are painted or polished would have been done when the engine is out of the car, you can polish it in the car but you will only get the top half and it will shit!!! -
with an msd no matter what BS they spin you about using a dis4 and making it work on 6 cylinders this wont work ona rb series engine you will need a dis4 unit and a dis 2 unit or better still three dis 2 units this equals big $$$$'s. Hope this helps, plus you will need new coils!!!
-
munro run up to 450kw at the treads with standard coils they are very good but like anything they need care and attention.... i will be running bosch motorsport items on mine when its rebuilt and also CDI!! Should never have a problem... oh and the bosch units are only $44 each thats the price of a good second nissan one!!!

I my car i went from a standard core 600x300x50 to a trust drag spl core 640x340x128mm and i didnt notice any difference in lag, that is probably because my old core was too restrictive and the new does take a while to pressurise but the fact it flows is more benificial!!! I would go the hundred its not much more money its not goin to effect lag significantly over 76mm but its alot more metal which means more heatsoak potential and cooler inlet temps!!! Cheers, Daniel. -
Werd! Very valid points doughboy!!! You can get bigger throttle bodies i think veilside do them ther are 48mm i even think there are 52mm but i can't remember who makes them!!! Roy the rb26 doesnt have coolant running through the individual throotle bodies the do however run through just after this very much like a rb20 or 25.... i will post up some pics or the head and throttle bodies tomorow night if anyone is interested!!!

there isnt a MAF-MAP ECU in the world that can successfully run a really smooth transition between tps versus boost ignition map, this is WHY the japs run a single throttle body....By smooth i mean no imperfections in afr's or ignition changes, personally i wouldnt care on my car that much especially on a car with a big turbo where response time is slow and tps-boost map change over can be covered in this time, but the japs hate imperfections!!!! The only ecu that is tunable in real time and can run a tps to boost is a apexi PFC, one because it retains afm's and two becasue it works like the factory ecu!!! Oh the reason i say tps to boost is casue that is how the standard 6 throttle are set-up!! All this is not relevant on a drag car as you are aiming to keep it on boost all the time!!!

Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
rev i have been led to believe that the so called balancer issues in the early group a's were to do with no.1 cank main journal issues on a batch of n1 engines!!! I cant get that thread to open, can everybody else if not maybe Prank can see if its bugged!!! I believe you can reduce the mass by a degree but i would be scared of cutting the weight in half and using a very non conductive and non acoustic metal such as alloy!!! Also the stock harmonic balancer isnt just a chunk of metal it is actually cleverly designed, i know i shouldnt say the factory wouldnt have done it like this if they could do it better cause that is such an unrelated comment for so many other things but the harmonics of a crank is a very detailed thing.. an un-related example you jsut dont change the main journal size cause you think it can be done different or better, these are the areas where all the research hours go when creating an engine...and its the same for dampening they spend many hours trying to get the engine smooth and vibration free through r&d on thinks like the balancer(Sorry to call it that even though the crank is what is balanced) But again you have your reasons i have mine just adding to the discussion!!!! -

Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to Skyrine-Dave's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
quite literally bigger is better because there is more metal.... More alloy means more to heat up thus the cooler is more efficient as it has a greater surface area and mass!! Simple in your house the tap furthest away from the hot water usually takes the longest to get hot 1 becuase it has to push all the cold water out but 2 because the pipes take longer to heat cuase they are longer!!! Internall design effects flow rates significantly perhaps the fins are smaller inside the tubing on the hybrid units which means more flow but less mass!!!! -
RB26Dett lightweight Font Pulley experiment
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
the harmonic balancer is balanced in con-junction with you crank... its weight is vital to your crank shaft being balanced over the main journals and big ends having a lighter one will throw this out and probably throw a rod through the block as well!!!! THere are no harmonic imbalances in a rb26!!! The haromonic balancer is also a dampner and the reason it is often steel is due to its better resenence frequency as opposed to alloy!!! You cannot internally balance a crank on its own as there will always be the flywheel and clutch hanging off one end. the balancer also is there to counterweight these!!! I would talk to an engine builder not just a mechanic before you decide to do this!!! Hope this sheads some light on the problems associated with this!!! Cheers, Daniel. -
SK yeah i thought that as subaru rods are only 5.135" for ej20 and 5.162" for ej25... but i really cant be sure as the part numbers corispond with so many other parts doesnt really matter to me as long as they fit... checked some rough measurements today, they are actually 6"... they come with the bearings that look to be the standard chev ones machine to width by eagle geez they have done a nice job on them... also they are quiet a thicker bearing hence the crank grindind of 1.960 +- journal tolerences... which gets me to my next question for a 700hp+ what crank journal clearances are you running... similar hp for a chev i know to run around 3-5thou but what about a nissan i really dont want to mess this up and stuff bearings constantly
-
in reference back to SK i have done a little more research today and i actually think that eagle are starting with a subaru rod of some discription... i couldnt tell you what particular engine it is from but that is the word i have been given by a man that has delt with alot of subaru's and used eagles many times!!!! Again back to engine outputs and so forth, it is never a good idea to say "oh i have seen or my friend or insert mechanic here has seen rb30's do 350rwkw on stock prepped rods, goin ask a few vl people how many they have seen let go as well.... looking at a stock rod compared to the eagle there is no way i would trust them past 80-90 hp each especially considering they are a stud and nut arrangement!!! Personally my biggest moto ever and i use it applied to everything " IF ITS WORTH DOING IT WORTH DOIN ONCE DONE RIGHT"... However im not saying the stockies wont do the job but for me i like the added insurance.... Cheers, Daniel.

stav please pm me your mobile i am in canberra and would like to come see the car as im after many parts!!! regards daniel -
YEah they are the right width as they have been machined to take nissan gudgeons at the little end, so the little end bush is now 21mm instead of 22.78 that a chev is... and the big end requires the crank to be ground around 35 thou i think.... i haven't measured it all yet cause i only got them today, but due to the grinding i dont think they will take the nissan bearings rather the chev ones im unsure untill i look at it all or maybe even another bearing like a speciallised type from clevite 77 ect... and yes i have no doubt they are chev 6 inch small journal rods but if the shoe fits!!! I have seen these used in another build ie. another rb30 but not twin cam head... they are slightly longer than stock and require the use of a metal head gasket ( not my best friend but will still work) of about 40 thou or 1mm to obtain an optimal quench of around .45thou!.. Cheers, Daniel
