on repeated g techs one person at 70kg made my old car .3 seconds slower, the next person so three in the car now made it a .8 seconds slower....MJ i think you are under estimating how small .3 or .8 of a second is, but its alot in writing on your timeslip... stock gtr carpet wieghs 7.3 kg replaced it with unbacked marine carpet from clarke rubber wieghs 2.1 kilos... all the stuff in the boot i mean everything trims the lot was 26.4 kilos including wheel. oh but if your modding your car all the weight you usually gain goes back into performance... eg lost that wieght but added oil cooler, remote oil filter, surge tanks and two pumps, 125 mm thick intercooler, front diffuser, gauges,... probably back to stock weight...dammit

Diff chat: mech LSDs
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to SLY33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i have been in a gtr with a mechanical front diff and its scary i dont think its a good idea, invisage those rally style donuts in wrx you see thats what this gtr wanted to do, spin on the spot it was a handfull even in a straight line, but this was a big horsepower car... i want to know how a 2 way is any different to a locker....a 2 way is locked on acceleration and decelleration same as a locker???? -
Removing plenum rb26
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to Fitzpatrick Speed Works's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah a rb26 is a fair bit different from a rb20 i have helped a mate do one on a commie rb20 its was a piece of cake compared to this debarkle, anyway i can say it can be done...and with the motor in there.. what i did was undo the engine mounts and jack the engine up 50 or 60mm do get to the air chamber under the plenum, ialso disconnected the tailshaft, firstly make sure you undo your loom and earth strap and wiring as this will restrict you getting the engine higher in the bay... then i got rid of the water chamber thing that disperses water to the head then it was pretty plan sailing from there but heaps of hours took me about 14 hours to do it all...but in the end it was all fine just a little loose didnt even use the new gasket, now its fixed but now i have a missfire instead... geez cars are fun to work on!!! -
Drag Racing Gearbox
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to Morgs's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
c4 ford is pretty damn strong and is 3 speed, also turbo 350 but ill doubt anyone could do a adapter plate for one that would be an awesome box also heap light for an auto!! -
there is a massive air leak from somewhere around 5th or 6th cylinder on the inlet side it sound like the plenum or throttle bodies are not sealing anyore to the gasket surfaces. the cars absolutely crap as it runs no vac and just bleeds out boost. My question is can you remove the plenum while in the car.. it looks like a mean feat, how do i get to all the stuff underneath??? has anyone here done this and can shed some light on what order to go and some of the hidden nasties.??? thanks, Daniel..

single piece tailshaft on gtr?
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to Amaru's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
the idea behind a 2 piece is to reduce driveline vibration put simply, one pieces also need more frequent maitnance, that is why 2 pieces are a more popular facory fitment. -
single piece tailshaft on gtr?
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to Amaru's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i think you can on a rb25 as they arent solid bolted to the gearbox they slide in on a shaft if they do id say it would be cool... previous the vl is a very isolated incident a one piece shaft especially on lowered commodores is a good idea due to the agles a 2 piece creates from being lowered.. -
optimax is a molecule expanded fuel that means they start with 92 ulp and play around (wont go into details, boring stuff) and make it reach 98... whereas mobile and bp fuels are initially refined to 98 octane they are not expanded... thus optimax is more unstable on a molecular level and more vunerable to chemical reactions such as reactions with oxygen, which is evident in the tanker trucks that trasport fuel and even in your fuel tank... optimax thus will only last a month max in your tank before significantly degrading itself...id expect bp to last 9-12 months before the same processes. bottom line optimax is way crappier, but is good if you use it straight away and it freshish off the supplier..

totally valid point with the fact that cast to aluminiuim is always a factor in thermal dynamic loading...im just basing my reasoning on peoples misconceptions of what o ringin achieves... it does not result in a bullet proof engine is my point, o ringin doesnt make your engine indestructable!!! i know this is not what you are getting at sydney, i just want to make others realise this...as i have seen first hand people who think it does.. i also strongly recommend against machined oversized metal head gasket that are offered by japanese tuning companies, they are simply not worth the money, and depending on budgetry constraints o ringin is a luxury for me rather than a nessesity(spelling). However id be more open to sydneys advice, i just wanted to make you aware your engine is not boost proof just due to the way the head is sealed..

r32 gtst parts
Fitzpatrick Speed Works replied to sinisteR32's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
i want all four door trims if you have them condition not important(as long as not broken trimming condition not important).... let me know asap as im in the stages of ordering some off another...thanks mate... -
thats not wat i meant sydney id be the biggest prick in the world to suggest have a weak link incase your tuning is out...i think you realise i didnt mean this... in cases i have had experience with, which i admit is only limited to 3-4 cases, we have recomended against o ring due to previous cases where massive boost pressures have resulted in a fried pistons, when in some cases the pressure might have only caused a blown head gasket... these cases are isolated but are due to over zealous owners thinking that because of o-ringin their engine is in destructable to boost pressure the happy side of 2 bar, not the case and to the leahman, boost increases dont always equate to tuning refinement... many a time i have heard " i thought being efi the computer would know about it" i mean its only an extra 10psi i plugged in there without its knowledge... as u eluded to a properly tuned engine wont blow headgaskets, so why waste on o ringin? PERSONALLY i wouldnt bother, but if your happy then go for it...

heres a question to ask yourself. would i rather my headgasket blow or would i rather my piston or ring lands or rings or all of these blow under big boost??? head gasket looks like the cheaper option to me!!! that is all
