my jedi powers sense a lot of hostility in you recently, Roy ... hostility leads to hate... hate leads to anger... anger leads to the dark side (yes, i just saw starwars) what was the stimulus for this thread?
-
your mate actually did this? or are you lying? i think timbar32 is on the money here... the way i understand it is that when the turbo compresses the air, it also generates a rediculous amout of heat. an intercooler is placed in line with the turbo outlet and the intake manifold. hot (and compressed) air from the turbo outlet runs through the intercooler, which is made of metal (good conductor of heat). it conducts the heat so that the metal fins are approx the same temp as the air. ambient air then flows over the metal fins at which point heat follows the change in temp gradient and attempts to reach an equilibrium. essentially the ram air 'draws' the heat out of the metal fins and thus the air inside. on an intercooled turbo car, at best an intercooler will reduce the intake temps to ambient now, an NA setup has no such heat-generating device in its intake path (ie turbo). so assuming there's the factory airbox and not a rediculus pod, essentially the intake temp of the air being drawn is IS ALREADY AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. thus an intercooler won't reduce the temperature of the intake air because there's no heat difference. all it will do is pose a restriction (which may be insignificant if its a low-powered car) BUT... for wank factor... an intercooler in conjunction with an electronic BOV set-up and some fake plumbing will make for some entertaining rice. and if you can convince your mates (and us) that its had a turbo conversion then you should be a politician! cheers, Warren.

I found a good cheap boost controller for $22!!!
WazR32GTSt replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
you don't really need to se the turbo as such what you are looking for is a tube that runs from just after the compressor to the wastegate it should hang (i think) just below the front side of the trubo heat shield and you should be able to see it. when i installed my gfb bleed valve i didn't have to remove the heat shield. you want to cut that tube and insert this boost controller in line with that tube, then adjust away! am realy lookign forward to getting this in and seeing how it goes in comparison to my gfb valve will post a comparison when its done in the next few weeks... -

so can we get a stainless steel ball bearing from somewhere to replace it with? -
ha ha you EXACTLY described my steup! http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/fo...ight=r32+airbox i cut open the stock hole as a secondary entry then i cut a hole in the bottom of the stock box and ran a pipe up the stock intercooler holes into this hole and attached it there with cable ties and sealed it off with silicone then i attached the other end for ram air and put the funnel on it I will be glad to show you, gordon if you are up in brisbane one weekend...
-
very similar to my setup, except i attached the end of a funnel to the pipe that sits down next to the intercooler hose!

a good place for cheap flexible pipe is clark rubber they have a variety of diameters and the inside of the pipe is smooth, even when the pipe is bent... great for CAI

turbo vs supercharger
WazR32GTSt replied to GTST_R32Dreamcar's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
the reason its not a common modification is that there's a factory turbo available... why would one spend so much money on getting a supercharger to work when they could just either buy the turbocharged engine, or buy the turbocharded car? that said, the thought of awesome low-rpm torque makes me drool... -
ahs he changed the spark plugs? let us know how that goes...

Thinking about buying an R33 - Advice Needed
WazR32GTSt replied to KRiSX's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
sounds like a nice car - low k's, decent price for a S2 auto isn't as bad others will have you think... best of luck with the decision Warren. -
well this has been covered a lot, and a search can help you with many OPINIONS, but its all up to YOU comparing stock cars... difference between R32 gtst and R33 gtst: R32 is 2.0L turbo, lighter R33 is 2.5L turbo, heavier --> as a result, the R33 is slightly faster, but the R32 handles slightly better then it comes down to looks... which one do you like better? I personally think the R33 looks fat and rounded, while the R32 is sleek and more sporty. Others disagree and love the R33 and hate the R32 then it comes to modifications... do you plan to do any? From what has been posted on these forums it seems R33's make power a bit easier than the R32's for the same money. Now, for the insurance... insurance will be HIGH for both cars. if you are in melb forget the R33 as its illegal to drive on your P's, and any insurance will be voided if you are at fault in an illegal car... Full comp might be $3k at a guess 3rd party about $700ish at a guess under parents name? no idea. not good for your rating though as you don't build one when under parents name (i think) and finally... you are 17 so please be careful on the road with whatever car you decide to purchace. So if you have listened to the above, then listen to this: DON'T DRIFT.... pelase! you won't afford the tyres, replacement engine and body parts, and you will damage either yourself or others whilst trying on the street. when you are older and have experience on the road then other manouvers mgiht come into play then. schumacker didn't drive a ferrari at the age of 17 did he? he learnet first - he crashed, broke bones, learned from his mistakes. then when he was older he ruled the world! have fun, Warren.

oh and very mature of you to put my quote in your signature now isn't it grant?
-
mate, i've left this already ...leave the name calling for kindergarden mods: might want to close the thread, not much use anymore and i think the guy got his help anyway
-
sorry for hijacking the thread mate hope the others helped you with your problem
-
quotes from 'grant': "genuinely stupid" (having a go) "yes mum" (sarcasm) "my hero" (sarcasm) mate, they're some great calls there reminds me of kindergarden grow up

actually i just noticed in another thread that you have the MV automatics shift kit in your auto box as well... was this put in after the 140rwkw run? would this have contributed to the dyno figure or is it purely gear changes as the name would imply?
-
...so i'm looking for a copper coloured pipe and i don't see anything that looks copper... thus i ask him to point it out
-
i'd be keen to see a dyno graph of your auto R32 making 160rwkw i made 132rwkw with the auto rb20 having 3"dump/front/cat-back (stock cat), FMIC, 12psi, chipped ecu (AFRs were 10-10.5 though), rb26 cams, and panel filter with CAI i thought the auto robbed some power out of it personally but you seemed to do nicely! EDIT: actually i just noticed in another thread that you have the MV automatics shift kit in your auto box as well... was this put in after the 140rwkw run? would this have contributed to the dyno figure or is it purely gear changes as the name would imply?

sorry but its not going to happen but hey, one day you will be older with a job and money and you can have any sized turbo you want! best of luck Warren. -
man, get into 'paint' and draw an arrow to the pipe you mean its hard to work out what pipe you are talking about it like if i took a picture of my engine bay and asked what the wire was for... or even better borrow a mate's camera... then we will be glad to help

i bought one of these bad boys as well! will find out in the next few weekends how it goes myself when i try it out... also only took 1 week from when i bought to when i had it in my hand - recommended seller for sure does the guy make them himself? -
if everyone did a search then ther has been plenty of threads about P's and power-to-weight ratios you will find that the power to weight ration comes from the TARE weight figure and the STOCK FLYWHEEL power of your engine thus modification does not make a car exceed a power-to-weight ratio, and conversely you cannot buy a GTR andget it de-tuned either maverick, ali: i appreciate that you have GTRs and are on your P's and i have no problem with this myself at all. i just don't think its good advice to tell someone who is thinking of buying a car that this is a viable option without any trouble. your takign a risk and that's your decision. its like a smoker... if you make the choice to smoke, then that's fine and its your risk. but its not good advice to tell a youngster that they will be fine if they smoke when they don't fully understand the risks involved Warren.
